๐ŸŒ™ Winter evenings are back - and we're lighting up the lanes again

Our winter routes are well underway, and you'll spot us out on the lanes and trails with reflective clothing, head torches, and big, supportive groups moving together.

We've run this way for years - sticking to familiar loops, keeping visibility high, and looking out for each other on the darker evenings. It's a simple routine that keeps winter running safe, social and enjoyable.

If you see a long line of lights bobbing through Buckingham & Stowe, that's us - keeping the miles bright.

Fancy joining us this winter? Three free trial sessions - full details in the graphic, or head to buckinghamrunningclub.com

๐Ÿ‰ Yuichiโ€™s Ironman Wales Redemption

One year ago, Yuichi missed the bike cutoff in Tenby. This month, he went back - and finished the full Ironman Wales (140.6 miles).
Gutsy, determined, absolutely relentless.
Huge congratulations!

His race report:

IM Wales 2026
It was my dream to finish an Ironman when I started triathlon five years ago. Iโ€™ve come so far, and finally achieved what I wanted โ€” to become an Ironman.

I failed last year after missing the bike cutoff, but I didnโ€™t want to give up. I felt I had to complete Wales before doing any others.

Work travel made consistent training difficult, but I trained as much as I could. I prepared better than last year, physically and mentally, ready for hills after hills.

The weather was tricky with rain all day, but at least it wasnโ€™t too cold. The swim was as expected โ€” people swimming over me, goggles knocked off, and even jellyfish. I still enjoyed it.

The bike course was very tricky. I avoided a couple of crashes on wet downhills. I paced well and was ahead of targetโ€ฆ until a puncture cost me 25 minutes. Luckily Iโ€™d built enough buffer and stayed calm.

Heartbreak Hill was challenging but my favourite โ€” huge crowds, guys in speedos making me laugh, and my friend cheering me all the way up. A moment Iโ€™ll never forget. Relief hitting the cutoff in time.

The run was tough. My stomach gave up after gels all day, so I relied on water and bits of orange. I managed my time carefully, walking uphills and running downhills.

Crossing the finish line and hearing โ€œYou are an Ironman!โ€ was unforgettable. Thank you to everyone who has supported me โ€” your encouragement kept me moving forward and never giving up.

Yuichi

Huge congratulations to Rachel Cooke for her amazing new 10mile PB of 1:03:15 putting her number 1 in the country for her age group by over 2 minutes. ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ

Back in August Rachel took part in a ten miler organised by Dereham Runners (Dereham, Norfolk) which is the club she joined when she was 15 in her home town!!

She previously completed the Bedford 10 mile in 2024 in 65:27 so hoped to beat that.

In the Dereham race Rachel ran with the lady who came second overall until the last 400m. They supported each other by setting a good steady pace.
What a fantastic race for Rachel as she finished 3rd in a time of 63:15. She beat the next lady in her age group by over 9 mins!

Rachel is now ranked fastest in the country for a 55-59 year old for 10 miles by over 2 minutes. She is also ranked first for 5 miles and park run, second for 5k and 4th for 10k!!

What an inspiration Rachel is ๐Ÿ˜

Congratulations to Ben Spencer-Jones for wining August Member of the Month.
Ben was nominated for achieving a superb PB double โ€” 41:08 at the Bearbrook 10km
followed by 18:55 at Buckingham parkrun,
shaving a second off a time he set seven years ago.

Other nominees for August were:
Andy Thirtle โ€“ for his consistently positive attitude, strong work ethic at every session, and the example he sets at parkrun.
Rachel Cooke โ€“ for an outstanding new 10โ€‘mile PB of 1:03:15, putting her number 1 in the country for her age group by over two minutes - an incredible achievement.

Great final track session of the season last night!
A brilliant mix of interval work across all paces, plus a few brave souls taking on the mile time trial.
Highlight of the evening goes to Bethany, who smashed her mile PB target of 6:10 and flew home in 5:55 - superb running!
Well done everyone who came down and made it such a fun session.

๐ŸŒ… Tuesday Evening Runs
What a lovely evening for getting out on the trails!
Groups took on everything from quiet country lanes to rolling local hills, while one of our coaches led a brilliant hill session under that sunset.
