For young people facing migration and displacement, a football field can become a place to connect, build confidence, develop life skills and find a sense of belonging.

Drawing on the work of PlayOnside with migrant and displaced young people in Thailand, this webinar features practitioners and a young voice from the field to share what sport can mean in the lives of young people.

This webinar forms part of the Southeast Asia Sport and Youth Crime Prevention (SYCP) Initiative. The SYCP Initiative is a regional programme established to build safer and more resilient communities through sport. Initiated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the AFD - Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the SYCP Initiative is being delivered in collaboration with national, regional and international partners across Lao PDR, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The implementation of the programme is supported by a consortium coordinated by the Alliance of Sport in Criminal Justice (AoS).

🏑 Ahead of International Day of Peace on September 21, read how Thailand Hockey Association’s ‘Play for Peace on the Field of Hope’ programme “seeks to foster resilience, promote positive behavioural development and strengthen protective support systems around participating youth.”

🏆 Key principles of the SYCP Initiative have been incorporated into a new regional anti-doping education programme in the Philippines. The ‘Building Clean Sport Communities’ programme was launched by the Philippine National Anti-Doping Organisation (PHI-NADO) in Cebu City, with the Philippines Sports Commission’s Edward Hayco, who chairs the SYCP’s Philippines National Network, delivering a presentation highlighting sport's role in shaping the character and values of children and young athletes.

📝 COMPLETE THE SURVEY: Working in association with the Southeast Asia SYCP Initiative, the University of Bath (UK) is conducting independent research to examine the factors that are considered critical to establishing stakeholder networks and cross-sector partnerships as part of capacity-building initiatives using sport. Make sure you have your say before the deadline for responses on 30 September.

🏸 Dr Suwanna Silpa-Archa, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, chaired the Thailand National Network meeting and workshop. She told attendees: "This network represents an important opportunity to bring together organisations from across sport, education, justice, health and community sectors around a shared commitment to supporting young people."

🏀 Representatives from health, sport, education, justice, policing and international organisations came together in Hanoi for the second meeting of the Vietnam National Network. The meeting was co-chaired by Le Thi Hoang Yen, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Sports Authority.
