Match Report

What a fantastic performance from the Red Sox! The girls showed great teamwork, determination and attacking football throughout all four quarters.

1st Quarter
The Red Sox started strongly, putting pressure on from the start. Lily found the back of the net to give us the perfect start.

2nd Quarter
The girls continued to push forward and were rewarded again, with Lily scoring her second goal of the game. The team were working hard for each other and creating plenty of chances.

3rd Quarter
Frankie got on the scoresheet with a well-taken goal as the Red Sox continued their attacking play. The opposition managed to pull one back, but the girls stayed focused and kept battling.

4th Quarter
The final quarter saw the Red Sox finish in style! Savanna added another goal before Aubrey found the net twice to put the result beyond doubt. A brilliant finish to a fantastic team performance.

Mendip Broadwalk Blue Sox v Whitchurch Eagles

Match Report -

Today we welcomed local side Whitchurch Eagles to Mendip. With some of the girls knowing each other off the pitch, all friendships had to be put to one side for 60 minutes. We knew it would be a tough game against a side who arrived expecting to smash us!

First Half

From the whistle, both sides enjoyed good spells of possession, but it was Mendip who began to dominate the territory. We were creating the pressure without quite causing Whitchurch enough problems, while the visitors looked dangerous on the break.

We had a few clear-cut opportunities, only for their keeper to pull off some excellent saves. Eventually, the pressure told. A superb cross from our midfielder found our striker, who made no mistake with a fantastic finish to put Mendip ahead.

We went looking for a second, but Whitchurch began to grow into the game and became increasingly physical both on and off the ball. Then, almost from nothing, they found an equaliser.

With their confidence growing, Whitchurch capitalised again during this spell and suddenly found themselves 2-1 ahead.

Second Half

Mendip came out calm, controlled and determined to put the first-half wrongs right.

And we did just that.

We found the equaliser after a brilliant piece of defending. Our defender won the ball, stepped forward and played a lovely pass into midfield. Our midfielder drove towards goal before smashing the ball into the back of the net.

Mendip were now firmly on the front foot. We created another two or three fantastic chances, but once again their keeper stood between us and the goal. One more chance and this time we made it count. Some lovely play in midfield and our striker got played through. The ball ended up popping into the air and our striker got a great connection on the ball and looped it over the keepers head and into the net.

Then came another huge moment as our midfielder unleashed a strike on the break that crashed against the crossbar. So close!

With just five minutes remaining, Whitchurch won a corner and managed to force the ball home at the near post to draw level.

But Mendip weren’t finished.

We pushed right until the final whistle and created another two or three decent opportunities, but unfortunately we couldn’t quite find that final finishing touch.

Mendip Red Sox U11s vs Mendip U12s

Mendip U11s faced a tough test against the U12s in a really competitive game, with both sides putting in a strong performance. Despite playing a year above their age group, the U11s showed great determination and battled throughout the match. As a new and developing team, there were plenty of positives to take from the game, with every girl putting in a great effort.

1st Quarter

Both teams started strongly, with plenty of energy and some good football being played. The U12s created a few chances, but the U11s defended well and managed to keep them out, finishing the quarter without a goal.

2nd Quarter

The U12s came out strongly and managed to score two goals in quick succession. The U11s responded with some excellent defensive work, standing firm and working hard to prevent any further goals.

3rd Quarter

The U11s came out fighting in the third quarter and started to put some real pressure on the U12s. A fantastic clearance from the goalkeeper set up a quick attack, with the winger breaking forward and calmly finishing to get the U11s on the scoresheet.

The U11s continued to battle, and after a bit of a scramble inside the box, they managed to find the back of the net again. However, the U12s responded quickly, scoring two more goals to regain control of the game.

4th Quarter

The final quarter remained competitive, with the U12s creating a few near misses. Another fantastic clearance from the U11 goalkeeper sparked an attack, with the striker battling through inside the box before finding the finish to score another goal for the U11s.

A fantastic effort from the U11s against a side a year older. Every girl worked hard, showed great determination and never gave up. There was some excellent defending, attacking play and teamwork throughout the game.

For a new and developing team, performances like this show just how much potential this group has. A brilliant effort from all the girls! ⚽️👏

Portishead Town v Mendip Broadwalk Blue Sox

Match Report -

Today, we travelled to Clevedon to take on Division A side Portishead Town.

With a few players missing due to holidays and a few returning from their breaks, it was always going to be a good battle.

First Half

From the first whistle, it was a really good game, with both teams playing some excellent football and putting together some good passages of play.

We created several promising chances but were just missing that final ball. At the other end, we defended really well whenever Portishead looked to attack.

We eventually broke the deadlock after some great play resulted in our striker running through on goal. She got her shot away, the keeper pushed it onto the bar, and it then bounced back off the keeper before trickling into the net!

We were on top at this stage and continued to push for another goal.

Portishead responded well and started to put a few attacks together. They equalised with their first real chance, as their player took a kick
In, before finishing from a tight angle near the byline.

Second Half

Portishead started the second half strongly and had us pinned back at times, although they didn’t create too many clear-cut chances.

We continued to create some good opportunities of our own, but Portishead then struck to take the lead.

After going behind, we created six or seven really decent chances, but Portishead seemed to have Mary Earps in goal! Their goalkeeper pulled off some excellent saves to keep us out.

It probably would have been fair for the game to finish as a draw, but football doesn’t always work like that.

A great test for the girls nonetheless, with plenty of positives to take from a really competitive game.

Mendip Broadwalk Red Sox vs AEK Boco

Match Report -

It was a hot day for the girls, and credit to AEK Boco who played the entire game with just seven players.

1st Quarter

The opening quarter was very back and forth, with both teams creating a few chances. The girls worked hard and battled well, with neither side able to take control of the game.

2nd Quarter

The second quarter continued in much the same way. Mendip created a few good opportunities and had some promising runs through on goal, but unfortunately couldn’t find the finish.

3rd Quarter

The third quarter saw Mendip having to do some extra defending as Boco put the pressure on. The girls worked hard as a team and defended well to keep themselves in the game.

4th Quarter

Boco managed to pull ahead after a bit of confusion at the back, allowing them to score. With around 10 minutes remaining, Mendip responded brilliantly and put the pressure on, creating opportunities and pushing for an equaliser. Unfortunately, the girls just couldn’t find the back of the net.

Despite the result, the girls showed great determination and kept fighting right until the final whistle, especially in the heat. A big well done to everyone who gave everything for the team today! ⚽️❤️

Mendip Broadwalk Blue Sox v Chepstow Town

Match report

Today we welcomed Chepstow, adding an extra edge to the occasion with one of our players’ dads managing the visitors — family pride very much on the line.

First half

Right from kick‑off the game was lively, with both sides trying to take control. We created several good chances and defended strongly, but midway through the half Chepstow went ahead. A ball into our box wasn’t cleared, and they reacted quickest to prod it in.

The goal sparked us into life. We began to dominate, and after a goalmouth scramble we forced the ball over the line for the equaliser. Minutes later we went in front, as our midfielder drove forward and finished calmly.

Second half

We continued in the same vein after the break, and our midfielder soon completed her hat‑trick, helped by excellent work from our winger.

Chepstow kept pushing, and only some last‑ditch tackles and sharp saves prevented them from narrowing the gap.

But it was us who struck again. Our winger delivered a composed cross for our striker, who finished confidently under pressure. Moments later, our midfielder slipped a clever pass through and our striker smashed home another.

Near the end, a Chepstow header in the box resulted in a free‑kick. With their players lined up on the goal line expecting a shot, we shifted the ball instead — and our striker blasted it into the roof of the net.
