IMPORTANT 😃🌱 NO Gardening Session This Monday 🌱
Just a reminder that there will be no gardening session on Monday 31st August, as it is the Bank Holiday.

There is some firewood available free for anyone in the local community.
Please help yourself and take what you need. If you know someone who could make good use of it, please feel free to let them know.

🌱😂 WHAT A brilliant Gardening SESSION!
WE CAME, WE DUG, WE PLANTED… AND WE ATE CAKE! 🍰🌿
We managed to get a LOT done:
🌱 Replanted our Jerusalem artichokes from two pots alongside the ones already in the ground — then gave the whole gang a lovely blanket of woodchip mulch.
🌿 Cut back and dug out the dry bush next to the big bush.
🌱 Crumbled all the celery seeds back onto the soil, cut back the dry celery plants and used them as mulch, then watered and covered everything with woodchip. We did the same with the parsley and land cress — nothing wasted!
🌿 Dug out the dry plant next to the parsley.
🍃 Planted some apple mint beside the wildflower area.
🫘 Looked after our beans… and because we don't have enough beans yet, planted even more beans!
🥔 And then came the GIANT potatoes the kids dug up… well, giant in imagination, minuscule in reality! 🤣🥔 We’re definitely going to need a bigger dinner plate!
🪨 Sifted through black bags of slate — definitely one of the less glamorous jobs, but someone has to do it! Thanks Andrea and Robin.
🐸 And of course, we spotted some frogs along the way!
🍰 Then came the most important gardening task of all… eating delicious cake from Tiziana and having a chat and good laugh! 😂

And perhaps the best part? Young and old working side by side, sharing skills, stories, muddy hands and plenty of smiles. 💚
This is what a community garden is all about — growing things, growing friendships and giving back to our shared space.

This wormery is looking for a new home! 🌱
It’s free to collect and currently has no worms inside, so it’s ready for someone to start their own little worm composting project.

🌱✨ A lovely Monday in the garden! ✨🌱

What a productive and joyful gardening session we had today! There was plenty of cutting and chopping, turning all those branches into wonderful natural mulch for the garden. 🌿♻️
We planted a lovely lovage plant, gave everything a good watering and started cutting back our wildflower area — helping the seeds spread naturally so we can look forward to even more beautiful flowers next year. 🌼🐝
And, as always, gardening is about so much more than gardening… there was lots of chatting, catching up and sharing some wonderful news. ❤️
We were also joined by Anna for some filming, which made the afternoon extra special. 🎥😊
And of course, no gardening session would be complete without something delicious! We enjoyed homemade redcurrant cake and refreshing homemade elderflower drink. 🍰🌸

🎨 FREE ART WORKSHOP – STILL GOING ON until 5pm 🎨
A great afternoon at Dame Emily Park as local residents, Garry and councillors have come together for a special free art workshop exploring Bristol’s mining history and remembering the Dean Lane Pit Disaster of 1886.
The workshop, hosted by Lamplighter Arts CIC and Garry is helping create artwork for a new permanent memorial, using drawing, collage and printmaking to reflect on the history of the area and the ten lives lost in the disaster.

There’s still time to come along and get involved — pop down, learn about Bristol’s mining heritage and create something for the memorial.

🌧️➡️☀️ I have to admit, I was a little worried about the heavy rain (waiting for it for so long) and was tempted to cancel today’s GoodGym session. But Mel persuaded me to go ahead — and yes, she was absolutely right! 😄
The sun came out, and the GoodGym “Angels” arrived and gave the big bush a proper haircut! ✂️🌿
Everything we cut was chopped up small and put to good use as mulch, so nothing went to waste. 🌱
There’s still plenty left to tackle, though, if anyone is keen to come along and do a bit more bush-bashing! 💪🌿
A huge thank you to the GoodGym Angels for another brilliant session — what a difference a few willing hands can make! ❤️
