Sunset strolling & litter picking.

Frenchay residents had asked if a litter pick could be arranged, we organised one before realising we’d have another hot day. Thanks to Frenchay folk who joined in and others who thanked us on our travels.

Together we collected 4 bags of litter. Compared to the heat of the day a slow stroll at 27 degrees was a breeze and we did some weight training whilst carrying the rubbish.

With lots of lovely weather there’s been lots of people enjoying Frenchay’s outdoor spaces, thank you to everyone who’s used the bins or taken rubbish home with them.

Litter collecting tonight at 7pm, forecast is 27 degrees so come hydrated. Meeting by Frenchay church. We’ll be strolling slowly. 😊

Another hot day, another river route to keep cool.

This week the 3 milers took a walk on the wild side of Frenchay, clambering over roots, rocks and around fallen trees. Which was the perfect filling to the sandwich run either side of this river path route mostly suited for goats.

Runners asked our run leaders how we know of so many different routes, our answer was ´lockdowns’. Unofficially though it’s because we’re curious, enjoy exploring and discovering beautiful places.

Our two mile group took a different route tonight as we swapped out running for strolling through the hilly fields and finding ourselves in the coolest place in Frenchay.

Does the White Lion have a walk-in fridge? That’s a completely rhetorical question as that’s not available for everyone to visit.

But this particular location is available to all locals, it’s a place beginning with the letter B and is found in the middle of the hilly fields…it’s the bog!!

With all of this dry weather it’s completely dry but surprisingly cool compared to the fields around it.

After cooling down, we had to get back up again, so we used the challenge of ascending the hill to try out different hill running techniques in slow motion (i.e. strolling).

It was great to get out and change up our running plans to adapt to the hot weather. Drink plenty of water and keep cool everyone! 😎

You’ve successfully completed 9 weeks of the course, in the most challenging of weathers too, have you experienced the joys of running in the rain?

It’s much easier than running in the blistering heat!!

At JustRun we can give you tips on surviving the wet seasons as well as the hot ones, as we welcome you to our regular run groups; 2,3,4,5 or 6 miles. Whichever distance you choose, you know you’ll get a good welcome as you continue on your running journey.

Oof it’s hot out there Frenchay and it looks set to continue over the weekend.

The best advice for runners… drink lots of water, adjust your plans, give walking a go and seek out cool locations.

Don’t try too hard & don’t be hard on yourself. These are times to take in the views, identify the birds, bugs & flowers and just go with gentle movement. Or get up really early before the temperature gets too much!!

And drink more water!!!

Congratulations to Anna who is our member of the month! 👏

Anna is a regular runner in the 3 mile group and has been a dedicated and loyal member of JustRun/Frenchay Runners for some time, as demonstrated by her vintage run club kit this evening. 👍

She’s being awarded the MoM cup for her commitment and consistency plus her gratitude and support to our run leaders. 💪

As well as joining us on Monday evenings, she’s a regular participant at our Friday interval sessions bringing an ethos of consistency and enthusiasm, whilst always being positively motivated to getting the run done.🏃‍♀️

Your gratitude doesn’t go unnoticed; thank you for your thanks too Anna! 🙏
