We seem to have a theme with clients this week and that people struggling to get up.

Winter is coming (in like 3 months) and the mornings are getting darker.

Multiple clients I’ve had need to deal with this problem by organising their night better rather than their morning. Get to bed on time and everything else becomes easier.

I have had some clients work with me for 5 years + and continue to work with me to this day.

I have had some clients work with me for 6 weeks and leave.

Some people who leave go on to find a new way to train and chase down there goal and for those people I feel honoured to be a part of the fitness journey and I feel happy that I got to play a part in them finding what they enjoy (or finding that they don’t like training in my style lol)

Then some people who leave just quit altogether.

I’ve always wondered why some people leave and quit, and I think it comes down to a few things.

1 - motivation is gone and they haven’t yet built the habits or enjoyment needed to stay disciplined
2 - They don’t see enough reward so think it is pointless
3 - they focus too much on the outcome and feel like a failure for not getting there sooner

You have to be able to work for longer than you think, and work harder than you think, to even get onto the playing field. I listened to a podcast and the guy said that you need to be in business for 5 years before you get results, he then clarified that you need to understand the game of business and work hard for 5 years and then the real work starts.

It made me realise that i spent 4 years understanding my craft, my service and getting the knowledge that I needed to produce results, and it’s going to then take me another 5 years to make the impact that I wanted to make when I first started.

If I focussed on the fact that I am not where I want to be I will be miserable.

If I focus on what I need to do in order to get there, then I will serve my clients and people correctly and it then becomes a matter of when not if. When will it happen, not if it happens.

Focus on inputs and you’ll achieve your goal.
Focus on the goal and you’ll be miserable.

Losing body fat check-list

1 - Calorie Deficit
2 - 2-3g of protein per kg of body weight
3 - Lift weights, try to get stronger or maintain your strength
4 - Be consistent

Balance your wants and needs.

If you want to train a certain way, then train 80% that way. But if you want to get to a certain goal, then 20% of your training needs to be focussed on that.

I have always been on the extreme side of adjusting my life to focus on one major goal. Training, nutrition, socialising, sleep, recovery - I adjust it all to achieve one goal. It’s served me well and I find it reasonably easy to just do what I need to do, I don’t question it.

But this is also because the goals I set myself are inline with who I want to be… and I enjoy it.

Discipline isn’t a thing when you enjoy something.

None of us have to be disciplined to eat chocolate, it’s easy when you enjoy it.

So make sure you want to show up, rather than forcing yourself to.

So, align your goals, your wants, your needs and your life.

Do the work.

You are strong
You are confident
You are enough

Some recent YouTube ramblings.

I spoke to a client today about consistency and how it creates better results in the long run than intensity. If you can be consistent with the gym 3x per week, you’ll get stronger, build muscle, see changes in your body and that will spur you on to want to train more and get more results, and soon you’ll wonder why you ever skipped the gym in the first place.

After the bodybuilding competition I needed a new focus and direction and wanted to commit myself fully to work. I committed myself to positing on YouTube. I wanted to commit to a schedule but found it was easier to commit to the actions that create the results.

So rather than committing to posting one video per week. I committed myself to spend a 4-6 hour block working on new videos.

I have kept that promise to myself, I can be proud of that and I can be confident that I can do things I say I’m going to do. That builds momentum. Momentum builds results.

1x bodybuilding competition + 2 silver medals.

5:25 mile + 525lbs (238kg) squat in the same day

1x ATHX competition + 1x ATHX Pro Finals

240kg Squat, 145kg Bench Press, 260kg deadlift and a win in the 93kg category of my powerlifting competition.

I had a lot to prove to myself over the past few years and can proudly say I put everything into it all. I’ve learned a lot in all the different modalities. Hybrid training, powerlifting, bodybuilding, functional fitness. I’ve done it all so I could learn it all and ultimately find what I enjoy and what I want to persue.

The more competitions I’ve done, the less important they feel, not because I don’t want to do well, but because I have slowly made myself proud of my commitments and abilities.

I think more people should set themselves challenges that push them, the more you do, the more you overcome, the more proud you can be of yourself and the less you’ll feel like you have to prove.

If you are scared to try something, you should probably do it. You never know, you might surprise yourself.

You are strong
You are confident
You are enough

What are your Habit Dams?

For ages mine has always been the habit of having a coffee in the morning while I read. If I start my day like that I feel like I’ve already won and feel like I’m on the road to success for the day.

I find the concept interesting because the most successful clients are the ones who can get straight back to their plan after coming off. Noticing how one habit can get my clients focus back has been interesting and got me wondering if there are any more out there for people?

It’s always been hard for me when I am having a bad head day to get into the day I had planned and i find by reading it helps my head and allows me to carry on without beating myself up.

You can’t achieve your goal because the stakes aren’t big enough. There is not a big enough reason to make the change you are trying to make.

Goals either have to be linked to the life you want or linked to the life you are trying to get away from and your greatest pain. If they are linked to both, well then you will be highly motivated
