Swimmers might think they’ve got this one in the bag… but Team Land is coming for them.
For the full 24 hours of Jubileeathon, we’ll have:
• 2 bikes ready to ride
• 2 runners ready to clock up the miles
• 1-hour bookable slots throughout the entire 24 hours
• Every mile adding to Team Land’s total
Your mission? Jump on, get moving and help Team Land chase down the swimmers in our virtual race following Luke Jerram’s Helios around the country.
You don’t have to be a serious cyclist or runner. Come and do your hour, add your miles to the team total and be part of something brilliant.
And yes… bragging rights are absolutely at stake.
24 hours. Two bikes. Two runners. Team Land v Team Swim.
Who’s joining Team Land?

Huge shout out to these two powerhouses, Lin and Jerry.
Hooks have been installed to keep the lane ropes and inflatable hose neat and tidy. They’ve also rehung the back doors, giving us access again after storms two years ago blew them off and they were screwed shut.
They donate their time and expertise to our beloved pool for free, and we love them for it. đź’™

I witnessed this happen today on a busy beach. It worked. Please share.
If your child ever goes missing in a crowd, DO NOT just shout their name. Shout their description.
It is every parent’s worst nightmare. You look away for one second, and they are gone. Your instinct is to scream their name. But to a crowd of strangers, "Leo!" or "Mia!" just sounds like a parent calling a kid over. They won’t look up.Instead, use the "Looking Loudly" method.
Start screaming their description like a human PA system: “I’m looking for a 4-year-old girl! Blond hair! Pink bucket hat! Blue shorts!". “Missing boy! 6 years old! Green dinosaur t-shirt! White trainers!".
Why this works instantly:It recruits an army: Dozens of strangers around you suddenly have an exact visual. They will immediately start scanning the crowd for that pink hat or dinosaur shirt.
It creates pressure: If someone has grabbed your child, hearing a massive crowd instantly get alerted to exactly what the child is wearing makes it incredibly difficult for them to walk away unnoticed. It feels loud, it feels embarrassing, and it feels terrifying - but it works.
Share this with every parent, grandparent, and carer you know. It is a simple trick that can save a life.

Good News
We’re delighted to share some fantastic news about Jubilee Pool.
Friends of Jubilee Pool has secured £50,000 from the SUEZ Communities Fund, administered by GrantScape, alongside funding from Bristol City Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy, Sport England’s Movement Fund, the John James Bristol Foundation and Tesco Community Grants.
This funding will help us continue making essential improvements to Jubilee Pool, including repairs to our drainage system, completing the final phase of our flat roof works, replacing our pool hoist and making practical improvements to the changing rooms.
There is still plenty more to do, including future improvements to the roof, changing rooms, toilets, showers, accessibility and heating systems.
We’re incredibly grateful to all our funders, volunteers, supporters and everyone who helps us raise money through our events. Every contribution helps us protect and improve this much-loved community pool for future generations.

Back in 1999, Hannah was a 21-year-old lifeguard at Jubilee Pool.
The staffroom was where the gym is now, and there was even a smoking room. Different times!
On 11 August 1999, Hannah remembers her shift being strangely quiet:
“It was sooooo quiet that session! I went outside and remember thinking how weird the light was. I remember everything seeming pinky.”
That day was a total solar eclipse - and Hannah witnessed it from Jubilee Pool.
Tomorrow’s eclipse is a different beast: a partial eclipse, but it should still be a pretty special sight.
So, if you’re at the pool, make sure you take a moment to experience this little bit of celestial magic for yourself. 💙
