A Message to All Players, Parents, Officials, Coaches and Support Staff Following the IISHF U16 European Championship
As we return home and begin to reflect on what has been an incredible journey, I wanted to take the opportunity to personally thank every single player, parent, official, coach and member of support staff who has been part of this U16 European Championship campaign.
It is difficult to put into words just how proud I am of every single one of you!
This journey did not begin in Switzerland this weekend. In fact, it began well over a year ago, back in the BISHA 2024/25 season, when this group first started building towards something special. Through countless training sessions, league fixtures, sacrifices, setbacks, victories, disappointments and successes, we worked our way through the regional competitions and secured our place at the Cardiff play-offs.
That achievement alone was something to be proud of.
From that point onwards, we embarked on what became a ten-month preparation programme for this European Championship, all while continuing to train and compete throughout the BISHA 2025/26 season.
There have been early mornings, late nights, long journeys, countless hours of training, and an extraordinary amount of dedication from everyone involved.
Looking back now, I realise that what we achieved wasn't simply qualifying for a European Championship. We built a team, a culture, and a group of young people who represent everything that is good about our sport.
To our players, I want you to know just how immensely proud I am of every single one of you.
You travelled to Switzerland and competed against some of the best young players and teams in Europe. You did so in temperatures exceeding 38°C, under physically and mentally demanding conditions, and yet every single one of you continued to give everything you had for your teammates, your coaches, your families, and your club.
That level of commitment, resilience and determination cannot be taught. It comes from character. It comes from pride. And every one of you demonstrated those qualities throughout the entire tournament.
Of course, results matter in sport, and we all wanted the weekend to end differently. But as I stood behind the bench and watched you compete, I realised that the scoreboard was never going to define what this team had achieved.
What defined this team was the courage to continue battling when things didn't go our way. It was the willingness to support one another when times were tough. It was the respect you showed to your opponents, the officials, the coaches, and everyone involved in the tournament. It was the way you carried yourselves with dignity, humility and pride, regardless of the result.
Those are the moments that I will remember.
I was incredibly proud to watch you stand shoulder to shoulder against teams of that calibre.
I was proud to watch you push yourselves to your limits. I was proud to watch you encourage each other, pick each other up, and continue fighting until the very last whistle.
Most of all, I was proud to watch you represent our club, our country and yourselves with such honour and integrity.
To our parents and families, a "thank you" will never feel like enough. The sacrifices you make often go unseen. The long journeys, the financial commitment, the countless weekends given up, and the unwavering support you provide have all played a huge part in this team's journey. None of this would have been possible without you.
To our officials, coaches and support staff, thank you for your commitment, your professionalism and your dedication over the past 18 months. The countless hours spent planning, organising, coaching, supporting and preparing this group have all contributed to creating an experience that these players will remember for the rest of their lives.
While this particular journey may now have come to an end, I genuinely hope every person involved takes a moment to appreciate what has been achieved. Very few players have the opportunity to represent their club and compete at a European Championship. Fewer still do so with the level of pride, character and sportsmanship that this group displayed throughout the entire competition.
As disappointed as we may feel with the final results, please never allow that disappointment to overshadow what you have accomplished.
You have represented yourselves, your families and your club in a way that should make every one of you immensely proud.
As your coach, I can honestly say that it has been one of the greatest privileges of my sporting life to be part of this journey with you all.
Thank you for your hard work. Thank you for your commitment. Thank you for your sacrifices. And above all else, thank you for giving me so many reasons to be proud.
Hold your heads high.
Adam Isted
U16s head Coach.
