Castle Snooker and Sports Bar Brighton and Hove's only fully air-conditioned Snooker, Pool and Sports Bar. With Sky Sports and BT The whole club is now fully air conditioned.

Castle Snooker and Sports Bar is the only dedicated snooker club in Brighton and Hove, with 12 snooker tables, 9 English Pool Tables and 2 American Pool Tables. Our Sports Bar has a 10FT HD screen, 6 55" TV's showing Sky Sports and BT Sports.

CASTLE CHALLENGE LADDER – HOW IT WORKS

The idea is simple: challenge players above you, win matches and climb as high up the ladder as you can! 🪜

🎲 THE INITIAL DRAW

We don't simply put everyone in ELO order. Players are placed into ELO bands and then mixed within those bands.

This gives us a starting ladder that's roughly balanced by ability, but with some randomness too. Nobody is simply given their final position — once it goes live, it's up to you to climb!

⚔️ CHALLENGES

All matches are scratch and best of 5 frames — no handicaps.

You can challenge eligible players above you within the allowed challenge range. Once a challenge is made, you have 2 weeks to get the match played.

Win your challenges and you can move up the ladder. Lose, and you'll have another chance to work your way up.

🛡️ IMMUNITY

If you win a match, you receive immunity for 3 days.

While you're immune, other players can't challenge you. This gives you some protection after a win rather than having to immediately defend your position again.

⚠️ VULNERABILITY

Vulnerability works the other way around.

While you're vulnerable, you can't make a challenge yourself. You'll need to wait until that period ends before you can challenge someone above you again.

Immunity and vulnerability help keep challenges fair, stop the same players constantly challenging each other and keep the ladder moving.

📈 EVERY MATCH COUNTS TOWARDS YOUR ELO

Every ladder match is a genuine scratch result and counts towards your Castle ELO rating.

That makes the ladder a great way to build a more accurate rating over the season — the more competitive matches we have, the better picture we get of everyone's true playing level.

It's not just about getting to No.1.

The ladder gives you a reason to play competitive snooker throughout the season, helps you meet and play people you might not normally play, and gives you a great way of finding competitive opponents around your own level.

And because it's a live ladder, there's always someone above you to chase!

There will be multiple end-of-season prizes, so there'll be plenty to play for regardless of whether you're fighting for the top spot or further down the ladder.

The first OOM of the new season is done, and Jim Pelling takes the opening title after beating Curtis Lambert 2–1 in the final 🏆

Not only has Jim taken an early lead in the OOM, he also walks away with the £200 winner’s prize which is enough to buy 36 Cruzcampos! Not a bad Sunday Jim.

Curtis takes £100 as runner-up, while Bav Patel and Teige Dillon each pick up £50 for reaching the semi-finals.

Jim had a cracking day beating Andy Norman 2–0, Thomas Lynn 2–1, Anthony Flynn 2–1 and Curtis 2–1 — with a semi-final walkover against Teige in between.

He finished the day +28.6 Elo, moving from roughly 1331.5 to 1360.1.

Interestingly, Jim wasn’t quite the biggest Elo gainer of the day. That was Teige Dillon, who picked up +29.5 Elo from his three rated wins. Teige beat Jia Zeng, Ellis Wilson and Steve Ratcliff without dropping a single frame.

Bav Patel also had an excellent tournament. He reached the semi-final, banked £50, had a great time with his friend Jack Daniels and gained +21.8 Elo. He won four matches so gained 30 OOM points before finally losing a very close 3–2 to Curtis. That was probably the match of the day!

Curtis himself had a strong run against some good players showing that pool players aren't always terrible at snooker 😝. After a preliminary walkover, he beat Alan O’Sullivan, Rory Tate, Robert Elliot and Bav before Jim stopped him in the final. Even with that defeat he still finished +13.8 Elo for the day, plus the £100 runner-up prize.

There were strong performances elsewhere too. Young Robert Elliot gained +15.5 Elo and showed what a lovely cuist he is! He recorded two 2–0 wins before Curtis stopped him in the quarters, while Steve Ratcliff gained +14.9 on his run to the last eight. Jack Lulham came out +9.0, despite only playing two matches.

There were plenty of close matches with over half of the matches going to a decider which is exactly what you want from a handicap event.

Thanks to everyone who came along, and thanks to TD AJ for doing such a great job using the new system despite a few teething problems!

Saturday starts with Spurs v Everton at 5:30pm on Sky Sports, followed by Sunderland v Arsenal at 8pm on TNT Sports.
Sunday has a local one for us — Coventry v Brighton at 2pm, before the Manchester derby: Man Utd v Man City at 4:30pm, both live on Sky Sports.
Then Leeds v Newcastle at 8pm Monday rounds off the weekend on Sky Sports.
