⛪ Step back nearly 1,000 years at St Mary’s Church, Friston!

Hidden away in the peaceful South Downs National Park, St Mary’s Church is one of Sussex’s oldest and most beautiful churches. With parts dating back to before the Norman Conquest of 1066, this incredible building has witnessed centuries of history—from Saxon settlers and Norman builders to smugglers, farmers and World War II.

Take a stroll through the ancient churchyard, admire the medieval architecture, and soak up the tranquillity of this charming village. It’s a true hidden gem that many visitors to the Seven Sisters never discover.

St Mary’s Church is one of the fascinating stops on our guided Seven Sisters tours, where we bring the history of Sussex to life.
