Chelmarsh Sailing Club More than a sailing club. Chelmarsh offers sailing, paddleboarding and open water swimming in a welcoming environment at Chelmarsh Reservoir near Bridgnorth.

Learn new skills, meet great people and enjoy more time outdoors. Founded in 1965, Chelmarsh Sailing Club is a welcoming watersports community based at the beautiful Chelmarsh Reservoir near Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Today the club offers sailing, stand up paddleboarding (SUP) and open water swimming in a friendly environment for beginners through to experienced members. Chelmarsh is affiliated with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and is a recognised training centre offering courses and opportunities to develop skills, gain confidence and enjoy time on the water. Whether you’re looking to learn to sail, try paddleboarding, get involved in open water swimming or simply become part of a great local community — there’s something for everyone.

🌊 More than just somewhere to sail…

If you've only recently discovered Chelmarsh, you might be surprised by just how much happens on our reservoir.

⛵ Sailing — from learning the basics and leisure sailing to regular club racing

🏄 Paddleboarding — courses, social paddles and regular member sessions

🏊 Open Water Swimming — organised sessions throughout the season

🎓 Training — opportunities to learn new skills and develop existing ones

🤝 Community — events, socials and plenty of opportunities to get involved

And perhaps the best bit?

You don't need to arrive as an expert.

Many of the people you see in our photos and videos started by simply giving something a go.

Chelmarsh is about getting outside, learning new skills, meeting people and enjoying our little corner of Shropshire. 💙

🌊 A busy Sunday on the water at Chelmarsh!

There was plenty happening at the club today, with sailing and paddleboarding all making the most of the reservoir. ⛵🏄‍♀️

🏄 Another group of new paddlers took to the water for our Walk on Water course, learning the basics and getting their first taste of SUP.

🌊 Our Sofa 2 SUP paddlers were out too, enjoying a great workout session on the water.

⛵ And Sunday racing incorporated this year's Bart’s Bash. The wind certainly wasn't playing ball, with some very light conditions making for some tricky sailing — but our sailors still got out there and took part in this fantastic worldwide sailing event.

Days like today really show what Chelmarsh is about — different activities, different abilities, and plenty of reasons to get out on the water.

🏄 Five new paddlers on the water! 🌊

Another brilliant Walk on Water session at Chelmarsh today, with five new paddlers taking their first steps into stand-up paddleboarding! 🙌

From getting comfortable on the boards and learning the basics, to building confidence out on the water — a fantastic session and plenty of smiles along the way.

A huge well done to all five of our new paddlers on completing their Walk on Water course, and a big thank you to our instructor for another great session. 👏

This is what our SUP programme is all about — helping people discover a new way to enjoy the water in a friendly, supportive environment.

🌊⛵ A busy few days ahead at Chelmarsh!

Summer might be drawing to a close, but things certainly aren't slowing down at the reservoir!
There's plenty happening over the next few days across swimming, paddleboarding and sailing.

🏊 Thursday – Open Water Swimming
Start the weekend early with an evening swim at Chelmarsh.

🏄 Friday – Walk on Water
Another group takes to the reservoir for our Stand Up Paddleboarding course — learning the skills and confidence to get out and enjoy SUP safely.

🏊⛵ Saturday – Swim & Sail
The morning starts with Open Water Swimming, followed by our Improver and Leisure Sailing sessions.

🏄 Sunday – Walk on Water
Another opportunity for new paddlers to discover SUP with one of our Walk on Water courses.

⛵🏁 Sunday – Bart's Bash!
Sunday racing is a little bit special this week as Chelmarsh joins sailors around the world for Bart's Bash.

It's one of the things we love about Chelmarsh — whether you want to swim it, paddle it, race across it or simply enjoy being beside it, there's usually something happening on our reservoir. 💙

And none of it happens without the instructors, safety crews, race teams and volunteers who give their time to make these activities possible. 👏

🩷 A splash of colour on the water! ⛵

You certainly can't miss this one! 👀

A fantastic splash of pink out on Chelmarsh Reservoir, with the asymmetric spinnaker adding a bit of colour to a day on the water.

There's something particularly impressive about watching a boat power downwind under spinnaker — and with sails like this, it certainly makes for a good photo! 📸

September might be here, but there's still plenty of sailing to be enjoyed at Chelmarsh as we head into autumn. 🍂⛵

And remember, we don't pack the boats away when summer ends — sailing and racing at Chelmarsh continues throughout the year.

Who else thinks more boats need pink sails? 🩷

⛵ Sunday racing at Chelmarsh!

Another Sunday, another chance to get out on the water and enjoy some club racing. 💨

Whether you’re fighting for every second, chasing the boat ahead or simply enjoying being out on the reservoir, Sunday racing is a big part of life at Chelmarsh.

With a mixed fleet on the water, there’s always plenty going on — different boats, different speeds, but everyone sharing the same course and enjoying a bit of friendly competition. 🏁

And with summer starting to give way to autumn, there’s still plenty of sailing ahead of us — we race throughout the year, so the end of summer certainly doesn’t mean the end of the season!

🌊 A slightly choppier Chelmarsh than usual! 🏊‍♀️💨

A big thank you to our three SUP safety paddlers who were out supporting our swimmers last night. 🙌

With gusty winds and some very choppy water, it certainly looked like hard work at times — probably as much of a workout for the paddlers as it was for the swimmers! 🏄‍♀️💪

Our SUP safety team are an important part of our open water sessions, keeping an eye on everyone from the water and ready to offer support when needed. Conditions like these really show just how valuable they are. 💙

And well done to everyone who got in and embraced the waves — definitely a different swimming experience from the beautifully flat reservoir we've enjoyed on some of those summer evenings! 🌊

Thank you to all of our volunteers who help make our swim sessions possible.

🏄 SOCIAL PADDLE THIS SATURDAY! 🌊

Another chance to get out on the water and enjoy Chelmarsh! ☀️

Our SUP members are getting together for a Social Paddle this Saturday 5th September, with a 1pm launch.

These relaxed paddles are a great opportunity to get out on the reservoir, meet other paddlers and simply enjoy some time on the water. 🏄‍♀️🏄‍♂️

All SUP members are welcome — if you're coming along, let us know in the members' group. 👍

Our social paddles are just one of the benefits of being part of Chelmarsh SUP Club.

If you're a competent paddler and would like somewhere to paddle regularly, meet other paddlers and take part in club activities throughout the year, why not come and join us?

🍂 Summer might be ending… but we're not done with the water!

The school holidays are over, the evenings are starting to draw in and there’s definitely a hint that autumn is on its way…

But that doesn't mean it's time to pack away the wetsuit just yet! 🌊

At Chelmarsh, there are still plenty of reasons to get outside and enjoy the reservoir.

⛵ Sailing — racing, cruising or simply enjoying some time on the water

🏄 Paddleboarding — social paddles and those quieter days exploring the reservoir

🏊 Open Water Swimming — because a change in season doesn't have to mean the end of outdoor swimming

In fact, some of the best days on the water are still to come. 🍂☀️

Fewer scorching-hot days, changing colours around the reservoir and plenty of opportunities to get outside rather than retreating indoors.

So while we might be saying goodbye to summer…

we're definitely not saying goodbye to life on the water. 💙
