Strength training does more than just make you look better ๐Ÿ’ช

It builds up your happiness for life as well! โค๏ธ

Every session is an investment in the person you want to be in the years ahead.

Stronger muscles.

Stronger bones.

Better balance.

More confidence.

More independence.

The ability to keep doing the things you love for longer โค๏ธ

Yes, looking better can be a great bonus...

But there's something far more important about knowing your body is strong, capable and built to handle whatever life throws at it.

Train for the body you want now...

But also train for the life you want to keep living ๐Ÿ‘Š

That's why we train for strength and longevity ๐Ÿ’ช

Stop ๐Ÿšซ

You've Done The Hard Work ๐Ÿ™Œ

Q) What should I do before a race or lifting meet?

A) Deload / taper

What is it, why do it, and an example photo below ๐Ÿ‘Š

In brief...

What is it?

It's the reduction of training volume and intensity in the final week or two before a planned event, race, or max effort meet.

Usually, you're looking for at least a 50% reduction in training volume, sometimes even more.

You'll still keep a few planned sessions in, but at a reduced effort, just enough to keep your body sharp, moving well and familiar with the movements.

The rest of it is...

Resting. ๐Ÿคฎ๐Ÿ˜‚

Why?

You've done all the hard work ๐Ÿ‘

Your body has been run through the mill and back. ๐Ÿค•

It's accumulated fatigue, niggles, aches and general wear and tear.

Your body and nervous system need time to recover so you can perform at your best on the day.

Backing off allows...

โ€ข Fatigue to disappear
โ€ข The body to recover
โ€ข The nervous system to recharge
โ€ข Niggles and aches to settle
โ€ข Your mind to relax (questionable ๐Ÿคฏ)

And no...

You aren't going to lose all your fitness because you trained less for a week or two.

Although this can be bloody hard to get your head around sometimes. ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ˜‚

And when done properly, you may actually perform better because of it. ๐Ÿ’ช

The aim is to arrive at the start line or under the bar with all the fitness you've built...

...without carrying all the fatigue you've accumulated.

You've done the work.

Now it's time to trust it. ๐Ÿ’ช

Train hard...

Fight easy. ๐Ÿ‘Š

Nobody is coming to save you.

Not next Monday.

Not when the kids are older.

Not when work calms down.

Not when you feel motivated.

At some point, you have to decide that your health matters enough to do something about it.

Not because you hate your body.

Because you want to enjoy the next 20, 30 or 40 years of your life.

Get strong.

Stay capable.

Look after yourself.

Future you will thank you.

I don't care what the scales say โฒ๏ธ

I care whether you can...

Pick something heavy up ๐Ÿ’ช

Get yourself off the floor ๐ŸงŽโ€โ™€๏ธ

Climb a flight of stairs without struggling ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Carry your shopping ๐Ÿ’ƒ

Keep up with your kids ๐Ÿ’†โ€โ™‚๏ธ

Feel confident in your own body ๐Ÿ”ฅ

And still be doing all of that when you're 60, 70 and beyond....

That's why we train for strength and longevity.

Because there's more to fitness than being lighter ๐Ÿ‘Š
