Bridgend Roller Derby

Last Saturday 2 of our vets, Nix & Moll and 1 newbie, Lauren, took on the mighty 15km Tough Mudder South West course. While it was remarkably less muddy than usual, they still got down and dirty!

With Moll on her 3rd, Lauren on her 2nd and Nix a Mudder virgin, along with a new friend Ross Curnell, it was the perfect storm for laughs and teamwork to get through the course.

Extra kudos to Nix for digging deep without a single whinge, even though she admittedly wasn't a fan of the course length and may take some persuading to join them next year!

Two years in a row we've had glorious sunshine. This year we camped, and we're already excited for 2027!

Development session 3 looked at rules and refereeing, we had the lovely Skatie and Nikki come down to give our newbies some very insightful advice on the world of reffing and NSOing.

Thanks for the tips and advice, was great to hear from experienced people in the community ❤️

Our founding member Marie unfortunately broke her wrist, for the 2nd time….during her first game back after the 1st break 🤦‍♀️ oopsie! But it didnt keep this committed BRD member down. She finished the season as LUM for our home game and what a job she did! We were all happy to see her receive her T4N gold medal in training Monday.

Congratz Marie and thanks for all your hard work!! 💙

So proud of Moll and Skullduggery who played in the diamonds are forever tournament this past weekend with CRD | Cornwall Roller Derby

The team came 2nd overall narrowly losing to Brighton with both of our BRD players receiving awards for their hard work. Thanks for having them cornwall! ❤️

Our development programme started today and we were so impressed by everyones skills!!

Even had to add some extra drills since they caught on so quick, ended the session with some music and free skate. Fantastic work guys 👏❤️

“I’m not sure I’d fit in…”

We hear that all the time.

Truth is, if you looked around at our team, you’d struggle to find two people who are the same.

We’ve got people working in procurement, finance, carpentry, research, digital design, banking, credit control, business analysis, hospice care, social work, clinical psychology, independent advocacy, health & safety, the Civil Service, teaching, portfolio coordination, tattooing… and students figuring it all out.

We range from age 22 -49!

Some of us are parents. Some aren’t. Some have played sport all their lives, others had never put on a pair of skates before joining.

Outside of derby we’re also looking after:
🐶 11 dogs
🐱 9 cats
🐔 12 chickens
🐴 1 horse
🐰 1 rabbit
…and that’s probably changed by the time you’ve finished reading this. 😂

The point is, there isn’t a “roller derby type.”

You don’t need to look a certain way, work a certain job, or be at a certain fitness level. You just need to be willing to give something new a try.
