🐴 Join us this Friday, 28th August, for a full day riding in the Black Mountains!

If you love forward-going horses, beautiful mountain trails and a proper day out in the saddle, this one is for you.

Our day rides are designed for confident, competent riders who are comfortable cantering on uneven ground and who enjoy riding independently rather than following nose-to-tail. Riders must also be under 13 stone. We can't take children.

We start at 10am, catching, grooming and tacking up the horses together. Don’t worry if this isn’t something you usually do — we’ll be there to help and guide you. It’s a lovely way to get to know your horse before you ride, as well as getting yourself warmed up for the day ahead.

By mid-morning we’re out on the trails, enjoying around 1½ hours of riding before stopping for lunch at a local pub or café. We tie up the horses, loosen their girths and give everyone a well-earned break. Lunch is included in the price - just bring a little money if you’d like to buy a drink.

Occasionally we take a picnic instead, with a simple packed lunch of a filled roll, crisps, fruit and something sweet.

We’re usually back in the saddle at around 2pm for another couple of hours exploring the Black Mountains, arriving back at the yard at around 4pm.

After untacking, grooming and feeding the horses, we finish the day together at the farmhouse with a well-earned cup of tea and slice of cake, usually wrapping up at around 5pm. ☕🍰

You can expect around 3–4 hours in the saddle altogether. The pace is relaxed but adventurous - our aim is for it to feel less like a traditional trek and more like heading out riding with a group of friends, confident and in control of your own horse.

What to bring:
• Jodhpurs and riding boots
• Riding hat and body protector if you wear one
• A 500ml water bottle labelled with your name, as larger bottles won’t fit in the saddle bags

We can provide riding helmets.

Please arrive just before 10am to complete a short form. Full details will be sent with your booking confirmation.

Fancy spending Friday exploring the Black Mountains on horseback? Get in touch to book your place. 🐴

🌟 LAST PLACE UP FOR GRABS 🌟.

We have been so happy to run our Llanthony Loop trail rides again this year, for the first time since Covid really, thanks to the new owners at the gorgeous Priory Hotel.

This is a 2 day trail ride, climbing high onto the Black Mountains before descending deep into the Llanthony Valley, and then returning along the Offa's D**e above Hay-on-Wye.

The Llanthony Valley itself is magical, with the ruined Llanthony Abbey sitting at its heart, and the Priory hotel is literally part of the Abbey grounds. It's a very special hotel with quirky rooms and the warmest hospitality.

We have just had one riding space come free on the last trail date this year, running 2nd-3rd September. It is also possible for a non-riding partner to join us for the night at the hotel. £750 fully inclusive for competent riders, happy on a forward-going horse over uneven ground.

If you can't join us this time, then our 2027 trail dates will be released soon - let me know your email address (either comment below or email [email protected]) and I'll add you to the mailing list. Meanwhile, please share this among your friends.

Paul & Beauty’s round in the Main Ring at the Royal Welsh Show 2026. This is the crazy Hunt Team Relay, where teams race against each other, undertaking a series of obstacles. You’ll see near the end Paul’s vast experience of opening gates pays off and he pulls ahead! Very exciting, and the crowds loved it.
