Wellness and Resilience Coach

Nearly 3 in 5 people delay seeking support because they don't feel their situation is serious enough, and 1 in 5 never seek help at all. That gap isn't about how serious a situation looks to anyone else. Research on what actually determines whether women access wellbeing support points to self-worth and self-advocacy, not severity.

Coaching exists for the space between doing okay and not doing so great, functioning and managing, but wanting things to be different anyway. You don't need a GP, an employer, or a diagnosis to decide that's you.

The Pause Practice is a free, ten-minute wellbeing tool. No account, no commitment, just ten minutes to get clear on what's actually in the way. Link in bio.

So excited to share that I'm going to Ideas Fest at Champneys, Tring β€” 9 and 10 September. A huge thank you to Sterling Bank and Ideas by Her for supporting my attendance. πŸ’™

I can't wait to meet female founders and women doing extraordinary things. If you're going, come and say hello.

And if you don't know what I do β€” I founded the Women's Wellbeing Lab.

The women I work with are not struggling. They are managing. Showing up for everyone who needs something from them, keeping everything moving. But privately, something feels slightly off. Not needing therapy, not needing another self-help book β€” just a persistent sense that they are ready to prioritise their own wellbeing, and not quite sure how to make that happen yet.

They have tried to change this. Nothing quite fits the life they are actually living. And they don't feel like they need support badly enough to justify it β€” but they are tired of waiting until they do.

The Women's Wellbeing Lab is a place to pause, get clear on what matters, and choose your next step β€” whenever you need to. https://www.elizabethsimpsoncoaching.co.uk/the-womens-wellbeing-lab. πŸ’™

Overwhelm isn't one fixed stage. It's a problem worth addressing properly, and that starts with recognising it moves through stages, each one needing something different.

At peak intensity, the body needs to settle first. There's a physiological reason why: a threat response shifts cognitive resources away from analytical thought toward fast, reactive processing (Sapolsky, 2004). The exact capacity needed to work through a to-do list is the capacity that's least available in that state.

As capacity returns, one instant action works better than a list of options to weigh up. Evaluating alternatives is itself a cognitive task.

Once real thinking capacity has properly returned, the deeper work becomes possible, the kind that changes how a situation gets approached going forward.

Three stages, three different kinds of help. Full breakdown on the blog, link in bio. If any of this is landing right now, the Pause Practice is free and takes ten minutes.

This week I realised my biggest barrier wasn't my workload. Dissertation, clients, business, family, all still there. It was the uncertainty around a big move as a family.

Asking for support from my family this summer lifted that mental load. It reminded me how much social connection does for wellbeing, and for health.

I write more on the evidence behind this on my blog, link in bio.

New data from the ONS: healthy life expectancy for women in the UK has fallen to 60.9 years, the lowest level since records began in 2011.

The national average hides the real story. In England, the gap in healthy life expectancy between the most and least deprived areas is now 20.3 years for women. A girl born in Hartlepool today can expect just over 51 years of good health. In Richmond-upon-Thames, over 70.

Where a woman lives shapes her health outcomes long before any individual decision comes into play.

The research also points to what protects healthy life expectancy at an individual level. Social connection and a clear sense of purpose are consistent factors, grounded in evidence, not lifestyle extras.

I've written up the full data and what it means for how we think about wellbeing now. Link in bio.

35 to 43%.

That's how much of your day runs on autopilot. Stated by researchers Wood, Quinn & Kashy (2002). Much of a day happens without a single active decision being made.

You'd call yourself fine. Functioning. Managing. And you'd be right.

There is a difference here between a lack of self-awareness and routines that we designed at some point or were handed to us even if we didn't want them. Sometimes a reflection of expectations we place on ourselves or of biases or inequalities from others.

The feeling of autopilot happens when a routine runs smoothly enough, for long enough, that it no longer needs your attention at all. Efficient, until the routine stops working and keeps running anyway.

And knowing what would help isn't the missing piece either, close to half of people who intend to change a habit don't manage it (Rhodes & de Bruijn, 2013). And this isn't about willpower.

Getting your life together doesn't mean changing everything. It means noticing the one or two things that have actually stopped working, and starting there.

Military life has interrupted my workday in a lot of ways. I didn't see this one coming πŸ™„.

If you're a woman in the military community β€” a partner or spouse of serving or veteran personnel, a female veteran, or a former military partner β€” you know what this life looks like, and the surprises you get with the accommodation.

And summer brings its own challenges. Changes to routine, reduced certainty, and for many of us a move or significant change approaching in autumn. And the support that exists rarely accounts for you β€” the grown woman navigating her own ambitions, identity, and wellbeing through every posting and reset.

At any one time I offer three free places within the Women's Wellbeing Lab to women in the military community β€” one at each level, for three months:
🀍 Essentials β€” self-paced tools, your own terms
🀍 Connect & Reflect β€” tools and connection, with structured resources to explore in your own time
🀍 Guided Growth β€” full one-to-one coaching support

Not sure where to start? The Pause Practice is free with no commitment β€” one place to identify the barriers to improving your wellbeing and take immediate steps toward understanding your needs and improving how you feel.
