The middle way keeps you steady when it matters most. Don’t get drunk on praise, don’t drown in criticism. Stay level, review with clear eyes, adjust, repeat. Calm is a competitive advantage.

One of the biggest skills in Jiu Jitsu is learning how to break frames down.
Good frames can completely stop your movement, kill your pressure and make it almost impossible to progress.
The mistake is trying to force your way through them.
Instead, you need to understand where the frame is strong, where it is weak, and how to change the angle so it can no longer do its job.
Once you start learning how to dismantle frames rather than just fighting against them, your passing and top control go to another level.
Don’t fight the frame. Break the structure. 🧠

The week after a big competition is always great…
Amazing to see the kids proudly bringing in their medals to show their friends and get photos…
These moments set a great example for others to follow, showing what can happen with a little hard work ❤️

This is what it’s all about. ❤️
One of the greatest feelings as a coach is seeing the children you once taught become role models for the next generation.
Hayden started exactly where so many of our juniors are today. Fast forward a few years and not only is he winning major titles, he’s now helping inspire and coach our younger students too.
Watching him take the time to celebrate with one of our youngest competitors after another successful day is a reminder that Jiu Jitsu is about far more than medals.
It’s about leadership.
It’s about responsibility.
It’s about giving back.
We don’t just want to produce champions on the mats. We want to produce young people who lift others up, set the standard and become the kind of role models every child deserves.
This is the culture we’re so proud of at Dream Art Bradford.

What an amazing day we had yesterday at the Elite Junior Worlds. ❤️🥋
Honestly, I just wanted to say how proud I am of every single one of our competitors.
Before anything else, thank you to all of the parents.
Thank you for giving up your weekends, doing the travelling, paying the entry fees and investing so much into giving your children opportunities like this.
One thing I never take for granted is the atmosphere we’ve built together. Parents staying long after their own child’s matches to cheer on other children. Kids supporting one another from the side of the mats. Everyone genuinely wanting everyone else to do well.
It’s something really special.
What really stands out to me after a day like yesterday isn’t the medals.
It’s the growth.
Sometimes you can actually see a child grow right in front of your eyes in a single competition. You know it’s been happening in training for weeks and months, but then all of a sudden it shows itself in one moment.
Noah Toothill was a perfect example.
He lost to a fantastic opponent in the Gi, but what impressed me wasn’t the result. It was how calm he stayed. He was thinking, adapting and trying to solve the problems in front of him.
Then they met again in the No Gi.
This time Noah won.
The difference wasn’t just the result. It was the way he approached the match. Calm, composed and making great decisions. That’s the sort of growth that gets me excited as a coach.
Then we had Melia and Tobias.
Both were losing their matches with only seconds left.
Neither of them gave up.
Both kept believing.
Both kept fighting.
Both found a way to win right at the end.
Those are lessons that stay with children long after they’ve forgotten the medals.
Then there was Kian Mullen.
He’s had a few difficult competitions recently after moving into tougher divisions. Yesterday he stood opposite a lad much bigger than himself. Most people watching probably thought they knew how it was going to end.
Kian didn’t.
He just kept fighting.
He showed incredible courage and found a way to win.
I absolutely loved that.
Not every story ended with a gold medal, and the value of competing has never been about medals.
Jess Keating is a brilliant example.
Jess always chooses the hardest challenges. This weekend she moved up a weight to face bigger girls, despite already being one of the smallest in her own division.
It didn’t go her way yesterday.
But she showed courage, resilience and the willingness to keep putting herself out there.
Those qualities will serve her for the rest of her life.
That’s why we compete.
Not just to build better Jiu Jitsu athletes.
To help build young people who are resilient, courageous and confident enough to keep going when life doesn’t go their way.
Yesterday every single child who stepped onto those mats grew, regardless of the result.
As a coach, I honestly couldn’t ask for anything more.
Thank you all for another brilliant day.
I’m incredibly proud of every single one of you.
Now… let’s get back in the academy and keep building. ❤️👊
