West Yorkshire Cross Country League 2026/27

The West Yorkshire Cross Country League is back for the 2026/27 season, with five races taking place across West Yorkshire.

Bradford Airedale athletes have the chance to compete across U12, U14, U16, U18, U20 and Senior categories, with separate races for male and female athletes.

Fixtures:
• 10 October – Cliff Castle, Keighley
• 14 November – Thornes Park, Wakefield
• 5 December – Middleton Park, Leeds
• 17 January – Nunroyd Park, Guiseley
• 14 February – Oulton Sports Club, Rothwell

The £25 entry fee covers all five meetings. Athletes must have an up-to-date England Athletics registration, and entries close on 4 October 2026. There are no entries on the day.

Points are available at every meeting, with individual, team and veteran awards up for grabs. Athletes need to compete in at least four meetings to qualify for a league award.

Approximately 35:00 for 5K

The pace and distance will be decided at the meeting point to suit those attending.

This week's Athlete of the Week was awarded to Albi.

Albi was super helpful throughout the whole session, answering questions, volunteering to demonstrate the drills for our new starter and giving his all in the relays. He then armed himself with what was seemingly a semi-automatic water pistol to promptly soak us all! Well done, Albi!

A quick thank you to you all for allowing the athletes to engage in the water games! Whilst we wanted to keep it fun, with this heat we have to keep it safe, and the water games allowed us to do that. To see all the smiles on their faces whilst doing so was an absolute bonus! 💦

On Saturday our group of athletes took on and completed the 5km Pretty Muddy Run in Wakefield, showing fantastic teamwork, determination, and a huge amount of spirit from start to finish.

Even more importantly, they have raised an incredible £2,000 for Cancer Research, helping to support a cause that impacts so many lives. A truly outstanding achievement that they should all be incredibly proud of.

All three athletes produced outstanding performances at the Leeds 1.5k on Sunday morning. From the very start, the trio showed great determination, led from the front and gave a fantastic account of themselves throughout the race.

Your hard work, commitment and enthusiasm at training are really paying off. Keep up the amazing effort, Oscar, Hetti and Maisie.

Both athletes delivered fantastic performances at the Leeds 2.5K Race, with Evie finishing as the 🥇 girl and Zachary taking an impressive 🥉place in the boys’ race.

I would like to welcome everybody to join me and say a huge thank you to everyone who came along and played their part in today’s very special event.

This group of athletes have completed the Race for Life with the biggest smiles on their faces and without a single complaint. Even more impressively, together we have raised over £2,000 for Cancer Research. That is an incredible achievement and proves that when we come together as a team, there is nothing we can’t accomplish.

I speak for the whole club when I say we are incredibly proud of every single one of you. Thank you for representing the club with such fantastic spirit.

Thank you to Joanna Colley for organising our participation in this year's event, your efforts don’t go unnoticed.

Also, thank you to all the parents who helped supervise the athletes around the course and those who stood at the sidelines taking the most important photos.

⚪️⚫️🔵 Up The Airedale 🔵⚫️⚪️

Jacob Broomhead produced a superb run in the Blackpool 2K, cruising to the finish and securing an impressive 7th place out of 198 athletes.

The smile on his face from start to finish says it all. This is only the beginning of what promises to be a very exciting athletic journey for this young man.

Huge congratulations to Sydney for completing the Blackpool Half Marathon in a brilliant 2:18, taking more than 10 minutes off her previous best from the Great North Run.

That’s not just progress, that’s serious work paying off.
