Despite it being a Thursday, and for lots of the children their first Thursday back at school, there was still plenty of energy, smiles and fun at training this evening! 💙⚽

We’re delighted to confirm that this season we’ll be entering both an Under-7s and an Under-8s team into the East Berks Saturday League in Bracknell. 👏⚽

MEET THE TEAM

1. What football team do you support and why?

I support West Ham United, mainly because when I was first introduced to football, my grandad supported them. That connection has stayed with me ever since and is a big reason why West Ham means so much to me.

2. What is your role within the club?

I play as a centre-forward/target man for the men’s senior Sunday side. I’m also the club’s equipment manager and coach the Bracknell U7/U8 team, so I get to be involved with the club in a few different ways.

3. What is your background within grassroots football and what do you like most about Hibs?

My background in grassroots football is mainly through refereeing. I’ve been refereeing for around 20 years, covering everything from U7s right through to men’s senior football.

The biggest game I’ve refereed was Reading U21s vs Bolton U21s in a pre-season friendly, which was a fantastic experience.

Hibs is a very special club to me and always will be. It was a club that welcomed me with open arms and didn’t pass any judgement on me or my ability on the pitch. That feeling of being welcomed and accepted is something I’ll always appreciate.

4. What do you enjoy about what you do?

I really enjoy coaching the U7/U8s. When you see a kid succeed at something you’ve taught them, it’s a great feeling and makes all the time and effort worthwhile.

But the best part of my week has to be when I get to lace up my boots, slip the shin pads into my socks, pull on that black and green shirt and step onto the pitch with the lads. There’s nothing quite like it.

5. Where would you like to see the club in five years’ time?

I’d love to see Hibs five divisions higher, still thriving and continuing to push even further.

Most importantly, I’d like to see the club keep the welcoming, togetherness and community spirit that makes Hibs such a special club to be part of. ⚽🖤💚

⚽ Giving Our Young People a Voice

As a new grassroots football club with an ever-growing number of youth teams, it’s important to us that our young people have a genuine say in the club they are part of.

That’s why, this season, we’re introducing our Youth Leadership Programme.

The programme will give our young people the opportunity to actively volunteer within the club, take on real responsibilities and gain valuable qualifications and experience within the game that they can carry with them for years to come.

Our Youth Leaders will also form part of our new Youth Committee, giving them a voice in where the club is today and, importantly, helping to shape where it goes in the future.

This is about more than playing football. It’s about developing the next generation of players, volunteers and leaders within our club and our community.
