So BrandsHatch gp 😬😬 strap in its a story...
No test day for me simply due to cost, Brands is the most expensive round on the calendar, not ideal when ive only done a handfull of laps there a year prior, however in 38 degree heat I dont think I missed out !
Saturday
0915 straight out for Qually, took me a few laps to figure the track out again but felt surprisingly good, managed to pip pole in class on my last flying lap by half a second ! 11th on the grid half a second faster than last years pb !
Race one
Got a good start managed to get away with the lead group, the aim was to just keep working at the track and gain knowledge, dropped off the lead group just a touch throught the race but still had a decent gap on the pit board, finished p1 in class p6 overall now 2 seconds faster than last year.
Saturday evening saw SHARPY 617 DAMBUSTERS Racing and the team take on the endurance race.
With high temp and mixed weather it was a great effort swapping wheels and refuling. The guys put in a solid effort and finished top 25 out of over 52 teams !
Sunday
Bit cooler thank god !
Another early start for the Interservice qually.
With the Army team missing a couple of key players I knew this was a golden opertunity, pumped out 6 laps with a time good enough for pole by over a second my first Interservice pole 😀
Time for race two, again got away with a good start from 7th on the grid, running top 5 for the first few laps, unfortunately the pit board was showing +0 to +0.4 .... I pushed on and managed my way up to 3rd overall leaving a decent gap back to Sam taking win number 2 and highest overall finish with the power cup guys.
The big one ! The Interservice race !
Starting from pole this was my best chance to take a win especially with the Army missing some key contenders.
A good launch saw me hold the lead lap one with yet again Sam Foster rite up my chuff !
Head down clear track I pumped out some good laps building a 3 second gap at the front.
It wasnt all plain sailing, the Army had called in Stephen Thomas one of their British Supersport riders... he started dead last and was in P4 by the end of lap 1 .... he eventually caught and passed me on lap 6 BOLLOX !
Let's see if I can hang with him, after a few back markers I was rite there with him learning on the job, he was rapid!
Last lap time, he went wide at Druids but I couldn't get the drive off the tight line, squared off turn 3 managed to get along side running the white line to the grass but no way around the outside, good drive out of turn 4 got me past but straight away out braked, again square the corner focus on drive.
Managed to level and block pass at Sheene curve then push harder than Ive ever pushed on 2 wheels for the last 3 corners, ultimately bringing it home P1 for my first interservice win and the championship lead 🙌🏻 proud moment for me !
Final race
Running on empty and unfortunately with Cully out due to a crash in race 2 I was leading the pack off the line from p2, no pressure ....
Got the whole shot and lead the pack for about 3 corners 🤣 before dropping back a few places, unfortunately my pit board didnt show more than half a second gap back to Sam.
A crap run out of clearways allowed Sam to make a pass into paddock hill, balls... now I had to dig deep, round the outside at Druids I got the lead back and went on full attack, passed another rider at turn 4 putting me to 3rd overall but it wasnt enough, 2 laps to go i managed to make a pass for 2nd overall which was just enough to take a full sweep of wins over sam who finished 4th overall showing me hes got some serious pace for the rest of the season.
Overall a weekend I thought would be damage limitation turned out to be my favourite and best weekends racing ive ever had ! X4 🏆🏆🏆🏆 and 5 seconds off last years pb
Massive thanks
