🤔Fault - Customer states fuel leaking from carbs onto the engine and also fuel in the engine mixing with oil. Also bike runs rough on idle and through the power range. (Shes not healthy)
🧐Diagnosis - Removal of tank and apply Auxiliary fuel tank. Drain oil to remove 5Litres extra of fuel and oil mix!!! 8 litres in total! Refil with new. Run up bike to test for operation to find very rich running due to overfueling and would only Run with large amounts of throttle application. Remove carbs and check for all 4 cylinders firing by applying brake cleaner to each inlet manifold individually- all good.
(We are only repairing the carbs in this post. Other work is being carried out to brakes, suspension and fuel tank)
🔧Repair - After removal of the dirty carbs a full strip down to the bare components and individual carb banks, ultrasonic cleaning was carried out @ 80° in 30 minutes intervals, over a period of 4 hrs (alot longer then we would usually clean for- but they really needed it). The ultrasonic cleaner is a great piece of kit however can be detrimental to cleaning - why? Because the cleaning solution is mainly water. Water = damage to carbs and poor running. So we thoroughly clean using hot water baths, pressured air, aerosol cleaners, pipe brushes, ect. We then use quality rebuild kits (the best aftermarket options we have) and begin rebuilding the carbs back up to like new condition. Setting up components such as float heights, mixture air screws, ect. A final fluid test over 1 hrs (hooking up an Auxiliary fuel tank and ensuring no leaks). ✅️
And the process once we get the carbs off to rebuild and ready to refit can take up to 6 hrs! (excluding the ultrasonic cleaner).
Care and professionalism with Carburettor work takes vital time.

🤔Fault- Customer states dash would flicker on and off intermittently even with the ignition turned off!
🧐Diagnosis- Replicating the fault is a struggle for intermittent faults when roadtesting (let alone when its on the test bench). So instead, manipulation of the bikes components is the most reliable way to show the bikes fault when testing. Sure enough, LCD dash flickers when the connectors are moved. Checking for powers and grounds (using our test light💡/voltmeter⚡️) you could see the dash loosing the Battery supply. Cleaning the connector of water ingress and corrosion indeed restored power to the dash ✅️ - HOWEVER! Now the dash continuously flickers. Showing we actually have 2 faults.
1- A corrosion affected connector causing an intermittent power loss and open circuit.
2 - An internal fault causing an LCD not to power up.
Once again checking powers and grounds a rogue 1.4Volt output from the dash to the fuel level guage could be observed (this should be a switched 12Volts supply), indication of a shortcircuit in the PCB (printed circuit board) of the dash. Full strip down of the dash and PCB would reveal our Diagnosis was correct. Corrosion on the soldered joints of the input pins and LCD unit. The reason for a flicker is due to the unit not receiving a full startup voltage(units can still work on anything as low at 5Volts as long as the amperage is high enough).
🔧Repair - A good 2nd hand dash was sourced and fitted. All connectors where cleaned of corrosion and terminal grease applied. Full roadtest given and full Diagnosis explained to customer.
Concrete Diagnosis.
Not wasting crucial customer downtime and money.
Professional approach.

Been very quiet on this page this year due to helping out and working in BSB stock 1000 class this year running the team at a weekend and helping with data engineering.
As we run into colder months work goes into my new workshop and working through personal bikes and a few friends projects.
