Bolton Walking and Outdoors Appreciation Society Volunteer organised community walking group with free informal walks around the wider Bolton area, covering South Lancashire and Great Manchester. EST 2011.

Tonight at 18;00, That's TV Manchester ran a feature on the longevity of BWOAS, highlighting the positive difference that our humble walking community has been able to make for so many people since we started in 2011. Of course Steven Carter got an honourable mention following the memorial walk that was held in August to celebrate both the fifteen year anniversary and Steven's life.

This group has always been a collective effort and I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has been involved in the organisation of the walks over the years and all who have been a part of what we do. Long may we continue to spread good vibes and enable people of all ages and abilities, and from all backgrounds, to enjoy the great outdoors together.

BWOAS is something I am incredibly proud of and it wouldn't have ever existed or still be operating if it wasn't for all you guys who make the group what it is, whether turning up week in, week out, volunteering during the walks, helping to plan activities and social events or taking a seat on the committee to navigate the course that lies ahead. The session comprised of a gentle and informative ๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ž๐ ๐ฐ๐š๐ฅ๐ค through ancient woodland, with lots of engaging discussion along the way. The group was led through an ๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐๐จ๐จ๐ซ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ ๐š session deep in the forest, with further ๐ฆ๐ž๐๐ข๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง and ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐ซ๐ž๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง close to the ruins of Hollinshead Hall.

This is much more than just a guided walk. I have put together a full immersive and engaging autumnal experience from the village of ๐‚๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ž๐ญ๐จ๐ง in the ๐๐ž๐š๐ค ๐ƒ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐ญ, taking in the ancient limestone gauge of ๐‚๐š๐ฏ๐ž ๐ƒ๐š๐ฅ๐ž, making our way over the hills and through some beautiful deciduous woodland to ๐๐ž๐š๐ค ๐…๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ, and taking in a modest hill summit at ๐„๐ฅ๐๐จ๐ง ๐‡๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ.

There will be lots to see and discuss over the day as I share my local knowledge, covering subjects such as the social and industrial history of the area, geology, folklore and hopefully getting up close with nature in identifying different plants and fungi species.

One of our long standing favourite routes from Horwich up to a well known satellite summit of Winter Hill, Two Lads, where wonderful views across the region can be enjoyed - yes, even at night!
