The Flodden Marks shoot.

Sunday saw eight of us enjoying the late Summer sunshine. Guest Maddy arrived never having Roved before and has now found that Archery is not all about Archery GB and standing in front of the straw Boss. At the end she was on the Marks !!. Well done. ☘.

Those that could made the short journey to support our local Rove at Bolton Longbow Archers. This was organised at very short notice and Tad and team did their club proud !! Old friends well met, and the weather was kind to us, ideal shooting conditions and all who attended had a great day, thanks from all at Flodden, ☘ ☘

At short notice and for those that can, Bolton Longbow Archers are hosting a Rove at Aspull Rugby Club Wigan WN2 1PJ.... Sunday 16 August 2026... Registration 9.30 am, if more details are needed please contact their Captain / club.

FLODDEN ROVE 2026 CANCELLED.......... I went into the pub last sunday to confirm catering for this years Rove only to be told that it was their last day of opening !! No warning nothing. I have spent time since trying to get more info and have managed to speak to a Landlord who 'may' be taking it over. He is talking to the Brewry and nothing is definite, even if he does take it on the pub requires work to get it back to a 'proper pub'. So it would not be open by the 6th Sep. Verry sorry for this but as Jason would have said, 'It is what it is'.

Farmer Jay and team have been hard at it and we arrived today to find the grass cut. .This made life easier for the Archers but still some arrows misplaced !! Three Manchu bows in play , the breeze was welcome and a good Morning had by all.

Flodden Marks Rove 2026..... Sunday 6th September.......details as per the 2024 notice, except.........Entry £10 U/16s free includes Tea Coffee on arrival. Camping available at £5 a pitch. Bowmans Barms / rolls/ buns, combo of Sausage Bacon egg should be available to pre order, details later. This will be the last open Rove that I will organise so come and join us in the fellowship of the Bow it will be a good day. Who will lift the sword for the last time ??

Happy Fathers Day to them that is !! Seven enjoyed ? the Summer Solstice Rove. Heat, humidity, long grass, biting flies, trying to stick arrows in walls and bird nesting, all in this mornings ramble.

First Rove of Summer and with overcast skies and hint of rain it felt more like the end of September. Andy is looking forward to Autumn when the tree will shed his 2 arrows he managed to lodge there, at least he knows where they are !! Grass is growing and arrows getting harder to find, still, a good Morning in good Company.

Near the end of Spring, today five gathered to enjoy the sunshine ? Enjoy perhaps not, as it sapped the strength, us Brits are not used to these sudden changes !! I was clobbered at the end lol. We welcomed visitor Jason who gave us a lesson with the Manchu Warbow and considering he has not shot our Marks before did verry well. Jason would have loved all these various traditions coming together. Onwards !! ☘️

Wise people say never dwell in the past but as I am sat here waiting for the weather to improve and looking out at grey skys and rain, why not, its great to remember good friends past and present, looking forward to Flodden 2026., are you ?
