🏏 A BIG STEP FORWARD

Following Derek from the SPCU - Strathmore & Perthshire Cricket Union visiting to test the ground, we were ready to get started with our square renovation.

And what a day of graft! 💪

Scarified. Cut. Seeded. Fertilised. Top dressed.

Plus 5 tip runs of thatch — around 1,000 litres each run — and 10 hours of hard work to get it all done.

Next year will see a full renovation of the square, and we’re incredibly excited to see the results.

A massive well done to Andrew for organising everything, and a huge thank you to Andrew, Steven and Gordie for all the hard graft.

Bring on 2027! 🏏

🏏 We have a moment worth celebrating.

After two years of rebuilding, growing and working incredibly hard to bring cricket back to life in Blairgowrie, we are absolutely delighted to say that Blairgowrie Cricket Club is now in a position to be welcomed back into the SPCU - Strathmore & Perthshire Cricket Union

For our club, this is about so much more than simply being back in the league.

It represents belonging. Progress. Pride. And a belief in the future of cricket in Blairgowrie.

We started this journey with a determination to give local people the opportunity to play cricket again on their home ground. Since then, we have watched children pick up a bat for the first time, girls discover a love of the game, adults return to cricket, old friendships rekindle and new ones begin.

And now, we’re looking ahead to an incredibly exciting 2027 season.

With support from the Strathmore & Perthshire Cricket Union, we are looking forward to planned pitch renovations next year at JJ Coupar Recreation Ground — helping us develop the ground and provide an even better home for cricket for generations to come. John (Johnny) Coupar would be so unbelievably proud!

We’ve had challenges along the way, but we have kept going. And today, we can look back and see just how far we have come.

A huge thank you to everyone who has stood behind Blairgowrie Cricket Club — our players, coaches, volunteers, families, supporters, life members, sponsors and friends. And a very special thank you to the Strathmore & Perthshire Cricket Union for welcoming us back and supporting the next chapter of our journey.

We’re back. We’re growing. We’re investing in our future. And we’re only just getting started.

🐾🏏 A FRIENDLY REMINDER

We’ve recently had more dog poo on the cricket ground, so we just wanted to take the opportunity to give a gentle reminder that the JJ Coupar Recreation Ground is private ground with cricket, rugby and hockey cutting and playing on grass.

Although our outdoor training and games have now finished for the 2026 season, the cricket ground will still be very much in use throughout the winter. There will be regular ground works and maintenance taking place as we prepare the pitch and ground for the 2027 season.

Dog mess can make this work difficult and unpleasant for our volunteers, as well as creating a health and safety concern.
Our volunteers work hard to maintain the cricket ground for the benefit of our players and the wider cricket community.

So, a gentle reminder that dogs are not permitted on the playing fields.

Thank you for your understanding, support and help in keeping the JJ Coupar Recreation Ground clean and well maintained. 🏏

🏆 Every now and again, something turns up telling the story of Blairgowrie Cricket Club — and this one is rather special.

We’ve recently been incredibly fortunate to receive an old 7-a-side cricket cup, presented by John Johnston Coupar in 1938.
That makes this little trophy almost 90 years old — and it takes us right back to a time before the JJ Coupar Sports Ground became the home we know today.

John Johnston Coupar would later play such an important role in the story of cricket in Blairgowrie, but this cup gives us a wonderful glimpse into the cricketing world of the town before the ground was purchased.

As we rebuild Blairgowrie Cricket Club today, we’re incredibly proud to be able to reconnect with the generations of cricketers who came before us.

Different generations.
Different players.
But the same love of cricket.

A huge thank you to Jamie and Kevin who have returned this wonderful piece of history to the club. It will be treasured.

Some things are worth keeping.
Some things are worth remembering.
And some things are worth bringing home. 🏏

We’re delighted to be at the Blairgowrie Highland Games today, and we’ve brought our Cricket Throwing Challenge with us!

🏏 What a way to finish the season!

The rain didn’t stop play at our generations 6s, and it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits. We had some fantastic cricket on show, a delicious BBQ, brilliant kids’ entertainment and, most importantly, a whole lot of laughter, fun and happy faces.

But today felt like more than just a cricket day.

Standing around the ground and seeing so many people enjoying cricket together really brought home just how far the club has come since it was reestablished last year.

To see children picking up a bat and ball, adults playing alongside them, families coming down to support, volunteers giving their time, and former players and Life Members returning to share in the day is something we can all be incredibly proud of.

It was particularly special to welcome back some familiar faces from the club’s history.

Colin Robertson and Derek Pillinger, ex-players and Life Members, spent time looking through their old scorebooks and reminiscing about days gone by. They opened the bowling together so memories came flooding back. Apparently they don’t remember quite so many ducks! 😂🦆

We were also delighted to have the Oudneys with us to present the brand-new Dick Oudney Memorial 6s Shield — a really special moment and a lovely way to remember Dick and his connection with the club.

And of course, the one and only Gordie Croll, who did a sterling job of umpiring throughout the day!

A massive thank you to Tony, who popped down with more gas for the BBQ when we needed it, our fantastic catering team, the amazing donated cakes, tea and coffee, our umpires, coaches, helpers and our brilliant grounds team who are forever working so hard to keep the ground looking fantastic. Not forgetting our incredible sponsors. Your support is overwhelmingly spectacular!

And finally, thank you to every single person who came along today — whether you played, volunteered, brought the kids, ate cake, cheered from the sidelines or simply came down to enjoy the day with us.

You are what makes this club.

From the first training sessions last year to seeing a day like today, with generations of players, families and supporters together on the same ground, it’s hard not to feel incredibly proud of what we are building.

There is a real sense of community around this club again, and today was a wonderful reminder of just how special that is.

This is Blairgowrie Cricket Club.
This is what cricket is all about.
And we’ve got so much to look forward to.

Thank you all for an absolutely brilliant season. 2027 is looking incredible already 🏏
