BSSC is a successful, friendly club offering swim lessons and competitive swim training

Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club is one of the oldest competitive swimming clubs in Hertfordshire. Whilst we strive to be competitive we realise our responsibilities to encourage sport for all and this is reflected in a club structure which ranges from our Learn to Swim School, through to our competitive squads and Masters (over 18s). Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club is a club that puts its swimmers first and with over 300 swimming learners and members, we aim to provide an inclusive experience catering for those learning to swim, those starting out on their competitive swimming careers and those striving to compete at Counties, Regionals and Nationals, or even Internationally. What a weekend for BSSC Masters last week! 🔴⚪ From Hyde Park to the Aegean Sea, our swimmers made waves in open water and brought home a brilliant haul of pool medals. 🌊🏅

Seven BSSC swimmers took on Swim Serpentine on Saturday 19. In the one-mile swim, Lizzie and Sally each won their age group, finishing 2nd and 5th among women overall respectively. Clare placed 3rd in her age group, Emma 4th and Helen 8th. In the two-mile swim, Niamh finished 13th and Jake 22nd in their age groups.

Sally and Lizzie were back in action at Sunday’s East Region Masters Championships, alongside Sammi and Jose:

🏅 Sammi: 1st in the 100m individual medley; 2nd in the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke; 3rd in the 50m backstroke
🏅 Sally: 1st in the 100m and 200m freestyle
🏅 Lizzie: 1st in the 50m and 100m butterfly
🏅 Jose: 1st in the 50m butterfly; 4th in the 100m freestyle

And in Greece, Rachael completed the UltraSwim 33.3, finishing 28th in the women’s wetsuit category and 123rd overall. What an achievement! 👏

🔴⚪ MEET OUR NEW CLUB CAPTAINS ⚪🔴

We’re delighted to announce that Chloe Sanders and Tom Hughes will be BSSC’s Club Captains for the 2026–27 season! 👏

Congratulations to you both. We know you’ll represent the club brilliantly and set a fantastic example for swimmers throughout BSSC.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to our outgoing captains, Zoe and Oli, for the leadership, encouragement and support they have given the club during their time in the roles. Your contribution has been greatly appreciated by swimmers, coaches and everyone at BSSC. ❤️

Please join us in thanking Zoe and Oli, and wishing Chloe and Tom every success as our new captains!

It was a battle of galactic proportions as two incredible swim clubs went head-to-head in the season-opening DUEL IN THE POOL.

However, only one team could take home the very special -manufactured mega trophy.

In the end it was Bishop’s Stortford Swim Club that emerged on top 469 to 414, but the FORCE was strong in all swimmers ensuring an amazing racing spirit on the night.

A huge thank you to all the swimmers, volunteers, officials and parents for supporting this special event.

An additional thank you to Colchester Swimming & Water Polo Club for supporting the event and traveling to Bishop’s Storford this evening.

Looking forward to doing it all again next year, Colchester Swimming & Water Polo Club. Your galaxy or ours?

Well done to Edie, Benny and Rose, who have been selected for the Swim England National Youth Development Programme! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️👏

All three have had a fantastic season, earning their places at GB Nationals and performing brilliantly on the national stage. 🇬🇧

This latest selection is a fantastic recognition of their performances and commitment, and an exciting opportunity to continue developing alongside some of the country’s most promising young swimmers.

⭐ REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME SELECTION! ⭐

Huge congratulations to Harrison, Taras and Kenny, who have been selected by Swim England East Region for this season's Regional Development Programme! 👏

Selection is based on Long Course 200m Individual Medley performances, with the fastest swimmers across the East Region chosen to take part - making this a fantastic achievement for all three boys. 💪

The programme is an important step on the talent development pathway, bringing together some of the region’s most promising young swimmers for a series of development days throughout the season.

From time in the pool working on technique, skills and race development, to developing the mindset and knowledge needed to progress as an athlete, it’s a fantastic opportunity to learn, challenge themselves and meet other swimmers on the same journey.

🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️ COUNTY TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS SELECTION! 🏊‍♂️🏊‍♀️

A huge well done to Taras, Edie, Benny, Molly, Rose and Dylan who have been selected to represent Hertfordshire at the Swim England County Team Championships!

After an incredible performance at last year’s Championships saw Hertfordshire promoted to Division 1, they’ll be back competing against the very best counties in the country.
