Wow it’s been a month since I last posted about my sprint Tri journey, so here is all of July in one hit.
A crazy busy month and a period that knocked me for six!! Not as much training as I’d have liked but managed to get some of the bigger sessions done.

My first two brick sessions completed (bike into a run) both were tough in their own ways.

Swimming hasn’t happened as much as I’d have liked and we’d hoped to have swam in the sea in Mallorca but 4 kids 5 and under was just something else 😅😂 - who were we kidding!

So instead, a month of a few runs - treadmill and outside navigating the weather. 2 brick sessions, a couple of swims and the odd strength session.

Mixed in amongst days out with the boys, surviving the heat waves, tending to my veg patch (my headspace!) date nights, girl nights and a family holiday of 10 to Mallorca.

Including this week… 8 weeks to go. Eek.

Week 2/15 sprint Tri training

A slower week because of being unwell Sunday and it impacting Monday so only 1/2 spins and 1/2 strength training last week. Along with the hot weather putting me off my Thursday run 🥵 but it was nice to get out running Sunday even if I did resemble a tomato afterwards! 🍅

Walks, 2 swims (both of which were hard work!), time with my boys and time with my veg patch. 👩🏻‍🌾

Also, Front squat… does anyone else hate the awkward set up of these as much as me?

Week 1/15 Sprint Tri training and then some…

Kicked the “week” (Sunday) off with a Bloody good afternoon with Lizzie Bland through Pilates, movement and thaxtedsaunacompany couldn’t have set myself up for the week better!

2x strength sessions ticked off - PBs on both bench and deadlift

1x 800m swim that nearly didn’t happen due to forgetting goggles!

2x spin instructed (replaces bike)

1x 3.5k run at very easy pace and ticked two boxes with some time to watch some Netflix - unfortunately I didn’t get my second run of the week done due to being unwell!

Catching up with a great friend and having balance

Enjoying a day with the boys watching their faves surrounded by history.

A full cup week had.

Week 2, hello…

11 weeks later (ok, it was supposed to be 8… life happens!), and the 5k return to running plan is officially DONE. 🎉

I get a lot of surprised looks when I say I’ve stripped my training right back to basics. People see “PT” and assume fitness is a permanent state, that I should just be able to head out and find a run easy. But despite two half marathons and endless 5/10ks in the past, I still have to dig deep to get those k’s complete.

✨Why strip it back?✨
It’s no different from strength training. If I haven’t deadlifted in months, I wouldn’t walk into the gym and chase my old PB; I would drop the weight, work on the form, and build it back up. Running is a skill, and I wanted to make it manageable, injury-free, and most importantly enjoyable.

Sometimes you have to “start again” to progress further. Whether you’re doing it for your physical health or just to prove to yourself that you still can, there is power in the basics.

Now that the foundation is there and the “runner’s high” is back, I’ve finally got my bum in gear and officially booked for the Grafham Water Sprint triathlon in September! 🏊‍♀️🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️

I’ll keep you all posted on the training... eek!

37 to 38 🎈
A year of growth, progress, and self-discovery.
This time last year, I was navigating the challenges of postnatal life - lack of sleep, loss of identity, and a body that was still healing.
Fast forward to today and I’m lifting heavier, I am fitter and thanks to my exercise in a better headspace.

This isn't a comparison post, it's a reflection of my journey and a reminder that every small step counts. - had you told me I’d be where I am in my postnatal journey last birthday, I wouldn’t have believed you.

So if you’re 5 months in or 5 years into your postnatal journey, remember, small steps count.

Before having two babies, press ups on the floor came quite easy to me, with no thought really needed. Having to adapt my training when I became pregnant each time and consistency with training in my post natal phases being difficult until my return to work, my press up fell by the wayside.

This time round though, I’ve been determined to get them back. So I stripped it right back and started again, built them back up (or down if you want to go in the direction of the press up! 🤪) and now I’m back on the floor doing some of my sets. 💪🏻

So I want to share with you, a great way I use on my clients as well as myself, to help achieve it. - it can easily be replicated at home with multiple surfaces.

Give it a watch and a listen and let me know if you’re going to give it a go, and how you get on too!💪🏻
