With the sad news of Dolly Parton who recently passed away, I made a drastically changed with class programming I set this week & rightly so. From residents Chair Exercise to Chair Yoga to Aerobics to Aqua Aerobics, we all did a Dolly Parton Tribute Workout using Dolly’s & country music with cowboy/line dancing moves 🤠
Doing this tribute session since Wednesday, its amazing to hear how many people who come to my classes were huge fans of Dolly. Some participants even saying that some of Dolly’s songs was either their first ever single or album they ever brought with their pocket money that they saved up which honestly touched my heart & Dolly certainly touched everyone globally 💖
Music is so much more than soundtracks to a workout in the phone’s playlist.
As fitness trainers, we know how powerful music can be. The right beat can push you through those final reps, lift your energy when motivation is low it brings a whole room of people together, moving in sync & sharing the same energy.
But music has another kind of power too.
It can take us back.
For me, I’m not simply choosing songs to fill the silence. My aim is to create an atmosphere, connecting people, lifting moods & sometimes creating new memories.
But one thing I have noticed over the 22 years of working within the fitness industry is how music can make strangers feel like a team.
Sure it can make a difficult workout feel easier.
But there’s more….
It can make us laugh, dance, bring out confidence, helps us to remember a particular move or even moment to help bring a little piece of the past back to life.
That’s the magic of music.
I’ve used a few of Dolly’s music in past sessions & the response I’ve had this week of using country music as well as Dolly’s, it sure will not be the last 🎶
Dolly, your legacy & music will forever live on including in any fitness setting I teach in & any excuse I find so I can wear my cowgirl boots I sure find. Because like you once said Miss Dolly P: “Find Out Who You Are, & Do It On Purpose” 🤠
