Our open water swimmers are now familiar with the banks of Loch Venacher which is where 'It's good 2 give' has funded this amazing facility called ‘Ripple Retreat’. The charity supports young cancer patients and their families across Scotland, providing practical help, emotional support and a place where families can spend precious time together away from hospitals and treatment. On Monday (weather dependent), Fiona and some swimmers from Lakes2Lochs will attempt to swim the entire length of Loch Lomond from Ardlui to Balloch (22.6miles / 26.44km) in a relay to raise money for ‘It’s Good to Give’.
The challenge will be professionally ratified by the British Long Distance Swimming Association, meaning the team must follow strict open water rules: no wetsuits, no swimming aids and only breaststroke / front crawl allowed, so Fiona won’t be able to add in any butterfly (much to her disappointment!😂). Each swimmer will swim for one hour at a time, rotating continuously until the full distance is completed. With cold water, changing weather and a huge distance to cover, this will be a test for every member of the group.
