Week 9 of the Dales Alliance saw the team visit Thirsk & Northallerton GC and the result saw us extend our lead at the top of the table.

Some excellent performances from our boys in blustery conditions resulted in a second-placed finish for BAGC, behind the hosts who had some huge scores on the day. Our nearest rivals, Blackwell Grange had an off day and finished in 5th place, meaning we increased our lead on them by 3 points.

Scores for our pairs on the day were:

41pts – Wayne Hewitt & Wayne Mundy
35pts – Steve Ridley & Alan Barker
40pts – Lewis Donohue & Carl Twinn
37pts – Andy Gardiner & Robbie Wilson

Prizes for BAGC players on the day were – 5th place for Wayne & Wayne (£15) and a sleeve of balls for Steve & Alan, following a two from Steve.

With just 3 games to go, the league table now reads:

31pts – Bedale GC
27pts – Crook GC
25pts – Catterick GC
25pts – Thirsk & Northallerton GC

A maximum of 10 points are required from the last 3 games to secure the title. This Saturday (26th September) sees the team visit Bedale GC. Good luck to those playing.

On Saturday 12.9.26 the Dales Alliance team visited Catterick and, despite registering a very good score, they finished on the wrong side of a close result - coming in 3rd place overall with only a single stableford point covering the top 3!

Scores for the Bishop pairs on the day were:

Despite the third-place finish on the day, the lads extend their lead at the top of the league table to 6pts with four fixtures remaining.

Saturday 5th September 2026 saw the gents team compete in the first of the autumn fixtures in the Dales Alliance at Crook GC, hoping to continue their good form from the spring.

Some excellent performances from our boys in difficult, windy, conditions resulted in a win for BAGC, to extend our lead at the top of the table. Final scoring was tight, with us edging out our title rivals Blackwell Grange by a single point and with only 4 stableford points covering the top 4 teams!

Scores for our pairs on the day were:

42pts – John Howarth & Mark Howarth
35pts – Wayne Hewitt & Wayne Mundy
31pts – Alan Barker & David Whales
36pts – Brad Main & Kevin Strange
40pts – Steve Ridley & Lewis Donohue

The 42pts from the Howarth brothers won the prize for best score on the day, pipping two other pairs who also scored 42, due to their sensational back 9, where they scored 24 points. The guys were rewarded with 2 dozen Pro Vs and £35 for their efforts. A further 4 golf balls was their prize for scoring a two. Rounding off the individual prizes was Lewis, who won nearest the pin on the 7th hole – another half dozen balls making their way back to Bishop!

After 7 of the 12 fixtures, the league table now reads:

On Wednesday 17th June the Men’s TSU Team travelled to Blackwell Grange golf club for our 7th game of the season which leads us to the halfway stage.

In the Scratch section Kevin Hamilton started us off with a great 7&6 victory, followed by Ben Mawson 5&3, John Howarth 2up, Mike Henson 1up and Wayne hewitt scraping a half which gave this section 9 points!

In the Handicap section the guys were giving away shots in every game! We had a dominant win from Richard Reed after returning to the starting line up 6&4, Craig Wren followed with a 3&2 win, Adam Peart won 1up, and Davey Elliot battled for a half which gave this section 7 points!

A fantastic away result in which always proves to be a difficult fixture.

The course was in great condition and I’d like to thank Blackwell for there amazing hospitality throughout the night and wish them all the best for the rest of the season.

On Sunday 14th June the gents team visited Seaham GC to continue their quest to reach the finals of the Academia Matchplay in Spain.

Each of our five players were giving shots to their opponents, so it was going to prove a tough ask.

Out first for BAGC was Chris Thompson, who found himself 3 down with 3 to play but staged a fightback to take his match the distance. His opponent managed a half on the 18th meaning he won 1 up.

Adam Peart was at number two and had to give his opponent 8 shots. The Seaham member played solid golf and managed to edge out Adam late on.

At three was David Elliott, who had a very tight match, where there was never more than one hole in it – sadly, David lost 1 down.

Richard Reed played really well and triumphed 3&2, despite conceding 6 shots to his opponent.

Our rear gunner on the day was ex-Seaham member, Paul King. Paul was involved in another close game and shook hands with his opponent on the 18th tee for a friendly half, when the news filtered through that we could no longer win the tie.

The final score of 3.5 – 1.5 to Seaham GC means that the dream of Spain is over for this year.

Joint team manager, Mark Walker, commented ‘a strong performance from our guys and with a little more luck, we could have won but credit to the guys from Seaham GC. Thanks to the captain, manager and players from Seaham who looked after us well on the day and played in a great spirit – good luck to them for the rest of their campaign. Finally, thanks to the players, caddies and supporters from BAGC – we’ll be back in 2027!’
