As temperatures are expected to be high this weekend and into next week, we’re encouraging everyone who plans to run to take a few simple steps to stay safe and comfortable in the heat.

Key things to get into the habit of:

• Drink water regularly throughout the day, not just through your run.
• Use isotonic drinks if you’re running longer or sweating heavily, they help replace lost salts.
• Wear suncream and a hat, even on cloudy days.
• Avoid running in the hottest part of the day where possible.
• Slow the pace or shorten your distance if you can, heat affects everyone differently.
• Look out for each other on runs and check in if someone seems to be struggling.

It’s also worth refreshing your first aid knowledge for heat‑related issues such as dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The more you know the better prepared you are if you need to act. The British Red Cross First Aid app is free and easy to use.

We’ll continue to monitor the forecast for Tuesday’s club run. As always, we’ll check in with our volunteers first, if leaders feel it’s too hot to run safely, we’ll adapt the session or cancel if needed. Your wellbeing comes first.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy your running and the lovely sunshine.
