⚽️ England 65s at the “Behind the Smile” Charity Tournament ⚽️
England 65s were privileged to take part in the International Behind the Smile Charity Tournament at Boldmere St Michaels, supporting an outstanding cause that provides peer support for those experiencing poor mental health and those bereaved by su***de.
The tournament featured two England teams (Reds and Whites), alongside teams from Wales and the Republic of Ireland. Both England sides performed superbly throughout a highly competitive day of football.
England Reds opened with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against England Whites before recording an impressive 4-0 victory over Ireland and a 1-1 draw with Wales to reach the final. The Reds then capped a memorable day with a 2-0 win in the final, with Peter Davenport enjoying an outstanding tournament, finishing as top scorer with six goals.
England Whites also produced some excellent performances, pushing the Reds all the way in the opening game and competing strongly against both Wales and Ireland in closely contested matches.
The football was played in a fantastic spirit throughout, with quality performances from all teams. Before the tournament, commemorative caps were presented to Martin Wadeson, Ken Dyas and Reg Walker in recognition of their contributions to England 65s football.
Most importantly, the event raised almost £1,300 for a truly worthwhile cause. A huge thank you to the organisers, volunteers, players and supporters who helped make the day such a success.
