Greens top dressed with sand and now for the rain to wash it in 💦💦💦
Here’s the team applying sand dressing to the greens following Wednesday’s hollow coring. ⛳🌱
Hollow coring removes small plugs of soil and thatch from the surface, helping to relieve compaction and improve air and water movement through the rootzone.
The sand is then brushed into the holes created by coring. This improves drainage, helps keep the putting surface firm and smooth, and encourages stronger, healthier grass roots. Over time, regular sand dressing also reduces thatch build-up and supports more consistent greens throughout the year.
There may be some short-term disruption while the greens recover, but this essential work is an investment in better playing conditions in the weeks and months ahead.
Thank you for your patience while the team looks after the course.
Great work by the team today at Harborne hollow coring the greens. Tomorrow we’ll be applying sand top dressing.
Here’s Dave Collins, Head Greenkeeper at Lickey Hills, kindly helping the HCF team test out the core collector hired from George Brown’s. A great bit of kit!
Sorry for the inconvenience caused. This work is paramount to keeping our greens quality all year round.
Please note that essential greens maintenance has been carried out today, including hollow coring, top dressing and overseeding.
While this may temporarily affect putting surfaces, the work is vital to maintaining the long-term health and quality of our greens.
We expect the greens to return to normal in approximately 10 days, subject to favourable weather conditions.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Our greens have now been verticut ahead of tomorrow's more intensive maintenance, including hollow coring, top dressing, and overseeding. We appreciate this work will cause some disruption over the coming days, but it's essential to ensure our putting surfaces remain in top condition throughout the autumn and winter months. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
