Another fantastic weekend on the slopes for Midland Ski Club! โท๏ธ๐
Some of our racers hit the fridge this weekend, and with that came even more podium finishes! But at Midland Ski Club, skiing has always been about so much more than results.
Itโs about community. Itโs about family. Itโs about supporting one another, celebrating every achievement, and helping every racer become the very best version of themselves. We are incredibly proud of every single one of our racers, whether theyโre stepping onto the podium, setting a personal best, or simply giving it their all.
A very special shout-out has to go to Amber โ one of our original racers and a true role model, not only for Midland Ski Club but for the sport as a whole.
Amber has absolutely smashed the Indoor GBR Series, finishing as the overall fastest woman โ an incredible achievement that is thoroughly deserved! ๐ฅ
Itโs been such a privilege to see you back on the slope doing what you do best. Your dedication, resilience and passion continue to inspire the next generation of racers coming through our club.
And to top it all off, what a special weekend for you with the British Grand Prix too โ celebrating your other passion! ๐๏ธ
Congratulations, Amber. We couldnโt be prouder. ๐๐
Always aiming for number 1!! ( I love the bottom pic!) โท๏ธ๐

Staying safe during a heatwave ๐จ
The Met Office has issued a severe high temperature warning across the UK over the coming days. While we know youโll still want to hit the dry slope, itโs important to stay safe in the heat โ๏ธ
Hot weather can impact anyone but especially older adults, children, those with health conditions and anyone spending long periods outdoors.
Here are some simple ways to stay safe while skiing or riding:
๐ง Stay hydrated โ drink plenty of water, even if youโre not thirsty
๐งด Protect your skin โ wear high-factor SPF and reapply regularly
๐งข Dress smart โ lightweight, breathable layers + protective equipment only when required for racing or training purposes
๐ง Listen to your body โ take breaks and watch for signs of heat exhaustion
๐ค Look out for others โ especially younger or less experienced participants
๐ป Avoid unnecessary travel during peak heat & donโt bring pets in hot weather
โ
Check local updates from your club or facility
โ ๏ธ If you or someone else shows signs of heat exhaustion, move somewhere cool, hydrate and cool the skin. Seek urgent medical help if symptoms worsen or donโt improve.
Stay safe and have fun! ๐

Annie Manning - U12 Ski Racer
(bio in poem form)
From Folie Douce dancing to mountains of white,
Annie first found her skis and pure joy in the light.
At four years old, carving neat parallel lines,
With snow in her soul and adventure in mind. ๐๏ธ
At Stoke she discovered both speed and her flair,
Always in pink with bows in her hair.
Our little Ski Barbie stood proud at the start,
With courage, determination, and a huge racing heart. ๐
Then Midland Ski Club opened the way,
With podium dreams growing stronger each day.
Rogerโs coaching, teammates, and fun,
A ski family formed that will never be undone. ๐
From Swadlincote slopes to Pembreyโs fast line,
Llandudno adventures where friendships still shine.
Rossendale podiums and Welsh Champs so fast,
Each season improving on the one that has passed. ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ
At Rossendale she flew to a brilliant top place,
First in category with speed, style, and grace.
In Pembrey and Stoke she kept charging ahead,
With determination and courage in every turn led. ๐
From Welsh Championships to GBR race days,
She keeps finding speed in so many ways.
Llandudno weekends, indoor battles, and more,
Always coming back wanting faster than before. ๐๐ผ
Then Wales Ski Academy called Annieโs name,
With dragon-heart courage in every race game.
Uniq soon became a place close to her heart,
Where snow racing dreams truly started to spark.๐๐ค
In Bormio she raced beneath Alpine skies blue,
And Olympic dreams suddenly grew too.
Now coached by legends Dave Ryding and Billy Major as well,
Keeping alive the dream she carries so well.
Though one small truth should also be told,
Behind all the medals and courage so boldโฆ
โSorry, I missed it โ race prep took time!โ
Is Annieโs well-practised and favourite line.
Her school bag holds goggles, race gloves, and snacks,
But completed homework? โฆ well, sometimes that lacks! ๐๐คช
Yet whether in Midlands blue or dressed head-to-toe pink,
Annie races with joy before most would blink.
Always cheering teammates wherever she goes,
With the biggest smile at the end of each course. ๐
Midland Ski Club sits proud at the heart,
But Stoke, Uniq, and Wales all played their part.
An extended ski family wherever she roams,
For Annie has found many mountains called home.

Max Ellans - Midland Ski Racer Bio
(In style of poem)
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
From tiny skis in Tignes snow at only age two,
Max found his edges, and off he flew.
At three with ESF Ourson proudly complete,
He chased the big boys on determined little feet.
Jon led the charge, Max close behind,
Too young for the Snowdome โ or so theyโd remind.
Yet gates were calling, and races began,
With Joe and Roger helping shape the young man.
Ackers at four, first bib, first run,
Still chasing Jon and Huw for fun.
Then Covid paused the mountain air,
But not the passion growing there.
Back came training, stronger and bold,
Through ESF levels to Etoile dโOr gold.
At seven forerunning with fearless flair,
Club Nationals and winter leagues everywhere.
CESA Tri Cups, Midland Schools too,
Two years champion in Under 10s through and through.
Alongside best mate Elliot, grins side by side,
With speed in his skis and Midlands pride.
At eight came nationals, the next big scene,
Plus ski cross silver โ fast, fearless, keen.
Then onto TV screens with Harper in tow,
For CBEEBIESโ โI Can Do Itโ show.
Schools finals followed, then Bormio snow,
English Childrenโs races in slalom and GS flow.
Gressoney adventures with Florence and Walter too,
And Jon still ahead โ just barely in view.
Now Santa Caterina and GB Childrenโs await,
Another big chapter, another start gate.
Still chasing Jon โ but not for long,
Next year together, where they both belong.
