🌟The Importance of the Pelvic Floor when Training πŸ˜ƒπŸ™ŒπŸŒŸ

My next talk is coming up soon with Sophie Lea | PERSONAL TRAINER and her team in September πŸ˜ƒπŸ’ͺ.

I’ll be discussing why the pelvic floor is so important when we exercise and train in the gym and what can be done if the pelvic floor isn’t working as effectively as we need it to.

Seeing the pelvic floor muscles like any other muscle group and training them as specifically as we need to for our level of exercise and function 😊.

Keeping women exercising safely and effectively πŸ˜ƒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ.

Watch this space for more exciting news on upcoming talks and bringing Pelvic Health into the gym and fitness sphere! 😊πŸ’ͺπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸŽΎπŸ“

πŸŒŸπŸ‘©β€πŸΌConsiderations for Returning to Exercise after having a Baby πŸ‘©β€πŸΌπŸŒŸ

I provide specialist talks to help women in the gym and sporting environments so they can have the knowledge and skills to help stay active and exercise safely and effectively 😊.

This is my talk on returning to exercise after having a baby. This is a particularly important topic because, for example; we know that approximately 1 in 4 runners do not return to running after childbirth and that pelvic floor symptoms can be a major barrier to continued exercise (Christopher et al.,2024).

Pregnancy and childbirth can alter the core system by the effects on the:

🫁Diaphragm-
Altered position, excursion and breathing mechanics
πŸ’ͺAbdominal wall-
Stretching, altered strength and endurance and possible diastasis
🌸Pelvic Floor -
Reduced strength, endurance and coordination in some women
🦴Posture and Lumbopelvic system-
Altered loading mechanics and increased risk of musculoskeletal symptoms

It’s important that these areas are addressed to provide a whole system approach to returning back to exercise after having a baby πŸ˜ŠπŸ™Œ. It’s more than just pelvic floor exercises and abdominal exercises, rehabilitation should be looking at how these 4 systems work together πŸ˜ƒπŸ’ͺ.

🌟🀰Antenatal Physiotherapy 😊🀰🌟

Just a little reminder that aches, pains and niggles, including pelvic girdle pain and lower back pain, are manageable and treatable with specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapy πŸ˜ŠπŸ™Œ.

Here I am enjoying going through a few exercises to help relieve lower back tension and tension and also keep the deep abdominal muscle activated during pregnancy πŸ˜ƒπŸ€°.

Please note: these exercises are just examples and not prescriptive for everyone in pregnancy with lower back pain and tension. Ideally, if you have any aches and pains during pregnancy or pelvic girdle pain, you have a personalised assessment so you have specific exercises for you and your pelvis and your lifestyle needs and demands. Remembering everyone is individual and specific rehab is keyπŸ‘ŒπŸΌ.

🌟The Importance of the Pelvic Floor when Training and Exercising 🌟

Pelvic floor dysfunction is a major barrier to physical activity: around 1 in 2 women with urinary incontinence stop or modify exercise because of their symptoms (Dakic et al., 2021)

Research has shown that urinary incontinence affects approximately 20-50% of athletes overall.
Symptoms are consistently reported to negatively affect confidence, training and competition, although many athletes continue exercising while modifying participation because of embarrassment or symptom management (Gan and Smith 2022).

Due to these factors, I am so keen to improve knowledge and awareness of the Pelvic Floor in the gym and sporting environments πŸ˜ŠπŸ™Œ.

I have a few talks already planned for the coming months, starting with a talk with clients of Sophie Lea | PERSONAL TRAINER from David Lloyd Bromsgrove πŸ˜ŠπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈπŸ™Œ.

If you’d like more information on my talks on the pelvic floor and it’s importance in exercise and training, please do get in touch:
