A wonderful Captain and Lady Captain’s Day at Handsworth Golf Club ⛳

On Saturday 20 June, members and guests came together for a fantastic day of tradition, friendship, fun and great golf.

With kind weather and more than 90 entrants in the main 19-hole pairs competition, it was great to see the club so well supported. The day also included a golfer/non-golfer chipping-and-putting competition, followed by a drinks reception and hot finger buffet.

Congratulations to all the prizewinners, and thank you to everyone who took part, supported the day and helped make it such an enjoyable occasion.

We now look forward to the Captain and Lady Captain’s Charity Day on July 18th, which will help raise money for their chosen charities: DEBRA, the UK’s EB patient support organisation, and A Child’s Heart, which provides Christmas presents for children in care homes, shelters and refuges across the Midlands.

Thank you again to everyone involved. Days like this are a real reminder of the friendship, support and club spirit at Handsworth.

The winners, Dan Higgs and Luke Bryan, are pictured receiving their prizes. There's a link to the full result in the comments.

A huge thank you to everyone who played in the Amrik Kalsi Memorial Golf Day on Monday, 4th May 2026.

Thanks to your donations and entry fees, we raised £670 for The Mata Nanaki Foundation in Punjab.

The charity provides affordable medical care for the poor, free care for those who cannot afford to pay, and also helps very poor families with marriage arrangements and essential starter items.

Congratulations to Hilary Smyth, who won the individual Stableford with a fantastic 40 points, including a superb round of three over gross.

The top three were:

🏆 Hilary Smyth – 40 points
🥈 Lucy Sidwell – 39 points
🥉 Winston McLean – 39 points

The best guest score was won by Jim Cope with 36 points, with a bottle of whiskey kindly donated by Amrik’s family.

The team competition was incredibly close, with the top two teams both finishing on 103 points.

Congratulations to the winning team of Ben Azam, Yusif Suleman, Adam Umarji and Iqbal Suleman.

Special thanks to Ajit, Jatinder and Sharon Kalsi for the traditional samosas, to Lee and Claire for setting up and helping run the competition, to Adam and the bar team, and to the green staff for presenting the course in such great condition.

Next year’s event will be held on the May Bank Holiday, Monday 3rd May. Please put the date in your diary.

Today, we were delighted to welcome Paul Mills (right) and his playing partner Lee Fellows (left) to Handsworth Golf Club.

Paul was the winner of second prize in our Ultimate Golf Giveaway, securing two Weekday Plus Memberships.

They certainly picked a beautiful day for their first round as members, teeing off in the hottest weather of the year so far — and judging by those opening drives, both appeared to get off to a very solid start.

We hope you both enjoyed the round and wish you many happy years of golf at Handsworth.

Huge congratulations to Dave Walters on achieving his very first hole-in-one after 40 years of playing the game we all love ⛳️

Dave produced the perfect shot on our 159-yard par three 17th last Saturday, holing out with a superb 7-iron.

As his son Matty said, “What a way to finish his first year at Handsworth Golf Club.”

A hole-in-one is one of golf’s rarest and most memorable achievements. It’s often estimated that only around 1–2% of golfers will ever make one during their lifetime, with the odds for an amateur being around 12,500 to 1 on any given par three shot.

A fantastic achievement and a moment Dave will never forget. Very well played, Dave 👏

Congratulations to Paul Byrne 🎉

Paul, from Water Orton, visited the club last week to collect his first-place prize in our Ultimate Golf Giveaway — two full 7-Day Membership Packages.

Unsurprisingly, he was absolutely delighted and spent some time relaxing in the clubhouse with his partner while the membership paperwork was completed.

Now comes the difficult decision: who to share the second membership with!

We look forward to welcoming you onto the course, Paul and seeing you enjoy everything our mature parkland layout has to offer.

Last week, on 14th May, we were delighted to host a charity golf day organised by Wayne Lewis and the team at Orton Group in support of Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

More than 50 enthusiastic golfers took part in the day, helping to surpass the fundraising target for this incredibly important cause.

Thankfully, the weather was kind throughout, and after their rounds, some guests relaxed and reflected on the day while enjoying the beautiful lake views from the clubhouse balcony.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported, donated, and helped make the event such a success.
