It’s the FINAL WEEK of the season… and what a season it’s been! 💚💛

🏆 Fresh from being crowned Cumbria Premier League champions this weekend, our 1st XI have T20 Finals Day tomorrow before one final league fixture to round off a fantastic campaign. They head to Wigton on Saturday before facing Furness again on Sunday in the Higson Cup Final at Dalton CC, looking to add more silverware to an already memorable season! 🏆

🏏 The 2nd XI welcome Threlkeld to the Raymond Denham Oval on Saturday, while…

🏆 Sunday brings another 2 cup finals! Our 3rd XI take on Workington at home in the Burton Cup Final, looking to cap off their season with a second trophy after their league title success! 🏆
And the under 13s squeeze in their area league decider at Temple Sowerby before the season closes.
So, one final big week of cricket. Three cup finals. Three chances for silverware.

🏏 W&G | A Season-Finale Thriller! 🏏

What better way to bring the Women & Girls season to a close than with another brilliant, nerve-wracking game of cricket! 😅🏏

Penrith won the toss and asked Cockermouth to bat first, and our opening pair got us off to a steady start without losing a wicket.

The runs began to flow more freely through the middle pairs, with Lucy King (10) running brilliantly with the spritely Lily Woodall (12). The wickets were also beginning to fall, though, helping to keep the score ticking along rather than racing away.

Lynsey Kaleinikas found the boundary on a number of occasions to top score with 17, as Cockermouth finished on 92/7 — a net score of 257.

We knew early wickets would be key in the chase, and the bowlers delivered. 🎯

Tight bowling, good catching, sharp run outs and a smart stumping from wicketkeeper Lucy kept the pressure on Penrith and ensured the scores remained close.

And then came the final over… 😬

The scores were still incredibly close as Penrith began the last six balls. The tension around the ground was growing and the supporters’ nerves were definitely being tested!

Lynsey had the final over and hit the stumps, removing five runs from the score and ensuring Cockermouth saw out the over to secure a fantastic 7-run victory! 🙌🔥

⭐ Player of the Match- Steph Davis-Johnston, sponsored by Fong Dawson Mortgage and Protection Adviser, who bowled a superb 2 overs, 2 wickets for just 9 runs, as well as taking a catch. A brilliant all-round contribution! 👏🏆

And with that, the Women & Girls finish a mid-table 4th in the Cumbria Softball League North.

From the growth in numbers, to new players getting involved, close games, plenty of wins, tours, laughs and some fantastic cricket along the way, it’s been a brilliant season for our W&G side. 💚💛

🏆 WEST CUMBRIA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS! 🏆

What a league season it has been for our 3rd XI! 💚💛🏏

10 wins. 1 loss. 1 no result. 60 points.
And, most importantly… CHAMPIONS! 🏆

After losing the opening game of the season, the 3rds responded in exactly the right way in going the rest of the season undefeated.

Captain Ben King is understandably extremely proud of the side:

“It’s been a great team to captain and I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved. The standards have been high throughout the season and it’s been brilliant to see everyone contribute.

“One of the main aims of the 3rd XI is to help prepare players for senior cricket, and it’s been particularly pleasing to see several players step up and represent the 2nd XI this season too. That pathway is exactly what this team is about.

“But this title belongs to everyone who has contributed. A huge thank you to the whole squad for the effort put in at training and on matchdays, and to the army of people who make the cricket happen behind the scenes- our tea contributors and assemblers, ground staff, bar staff and, of course, our scorer Nathan, who is such a big part of the team.”

Let’s not forget the supporters who have cheered the lads and lasses on along the way too. 💚💛

What a weekend for Cockermouth CC, with plenty to celebrate across the weekend! 💚💛🏏

🔥 1st XI – 160/8 beat Millom 157 all out by 2 wickets

Another huge step towards the league title! The victory leaves the 1sts just 6 points away from being crowned champions with two games remaining- one more win will do it! 👀🏆

It was a proper team effort, but our Players of the Match were split between Ethan Hardie-Knight, sponsored by Lucy King Foot Health Practitioner and Josh Brown, sponsored by Manning Elliott Architects & Designers. Ethan produced an incredible spell of 10 overs, 7 maidens and just 7 runs conceded, while Josh’s unbeaten 36* guided the team home with just one over to spare. 👏

💪 2nd XI – 139 all out lost to Edenhall 142/8 by 2 wickets

A real back-and-forth game that unfortunately went the way of Edenhall, although the 2nds still picked up 4 points from the match.

Jack Edmondson led the way with the bat, scoring 50 in a player of the match performance before heading off to Whitby! Owen Davis-Johnston produced a fantastic spell with the ball, taking his first 2nd XI wickets- including two in two balls! 👏

🏆 3rd XI – 153/7 beat Whitehaven 55 all out by 98 runs

A brilliant all-round performance from the 3rds saw them book their place in the Burton Cup Final, which will be played at home on September 6th! 🎉

Ruby Hutchison made a valuable contribution with some excellent middle-order runs before the bowlers combined to completely restrict Whitehaven. And leading the charge was Patrick Williams, sponsored by Cumbrian Ales, who spun his way to a fantastic 5-wicket haul to earn Player of the Match! 🔥

There was also a presentation of the West Cumbria League trophy to the 3rds after the game- something we’ll be celebrating properly in a post of its own later this week! 🏆😀
