Struggling with an over-the-top swing? 🏌️♂️
Here are 3 simple drills you can try on the range to help change that path 👇
1️⃣ Drop the trail foot back
For a right-handed golfer, pull your right foot back so the toes are roughly level with the middle, or even the heel, of your left foot.
This closed stance gives the trail hip more room and encourages the arms and club to work on a more rounded arc around the body. It can make it much easier to experience the feeling of the club approaching the ball shallower and more from the inside, rather than throwing the club out towards the ball from the top.
Don’t force it. Make some smooth swings and let the setup help create the movement.
2️⃣ Build yourself a basket gate 🧺
Use two empty range baskets to create a clear pathway for the club.
Place one by your trail foot, roughly level with the ball, and the second forward of the ball by your lead foot and slightly closer to you.
Now simply make swings without hitting either basket.
External constraints like this are great because you don’t have to constantly think about where the club should be. The baskets give you instant feedback and encourage your body and club to organise themselves around the task. Similar obstacle drills are used specifically to help golfers change an excessive out-to-in path.
3️⃣ Use your golf bag as a feedback station 🎒
Extend your driver out of the bag and position it so you’ve got a reference for where your head is at address.
The goal is to avoid excessively moving your head and upper body towards the golf ball during the downswing.
When the pelvis and body move towards the ball, the chest can stand up and the arms can get pushed outwards, making it much harder to deliver the club from the inside.
You don’t need to make your swing perfect overnight. Start slowly, exaggerate the new feeling and gradually build the speed back up. 🎯
Give these 3 drills a go next time you’re at the range and let me know which one works best for you! ⛳️

Can you apply the brakes? 🛑🏌️♂️
This is one of my favourite drills for getting the body, arms and club working together through impact.
The challenge is simple: hit a controlled shot and try to get your body, arms AND club to finish at the same time, with the club finishing below shoulder height.
That last part is important.
We’re not just making a shorter swing. We’re learning how to apply the brakes to the whole system together.
If your body stops but the arms and club keep travelling, the hands can take over and the club can race past you. If everything finishes together, you start to develop the feeling of the pivot controlling and supporting the release, rather than relying on a last-second flip of the hands.
Think:
🔄 Keep rotating through the strike
🤝 Body, arms and club working together
🛑 Finish everything together
📍 Keep the club below shoulder height
You should still hit the ball with intent. The aim isn’t to slow down through impact. It’s to create speed and then be able to control where that motion finishes. Short-stop drills are specifically used to expose whether the arms are taking over because, if they are, the club tends to keep travelling beyond the intended finish.
Learn to accelerate. Learn to brake. Learn to sync the two.
Give it a go with a mid iron and see how low you can finish while still producing a solid strike 👊
Hopefully the start of some more good things to come 👀
I’m looking to try some different types of content, so to start I’ve sat down with a top bloke, Rick, for a quick chat covering some unpopular opinions, Q&As and plenty of golf chat ⛳️

Holes 4–6… let’s see if I can keep it going 👀⛳️🔥
IS PATH AS IMPORTANT AS YOU THINK👀
Out-to-in ↖️ In-to-out ↗️
Wobbly🔀 Straight ⬆️
You can hole the putt with any of them.
Why?
Because when it comes to where the ball starts, face direction has a much bigger influence than path. 🎯
And this doesn’t just apply to your path…
Stop worrying about the putter wobbling on the way back too.
Your putter doesn’t have to travel perfectly straight or look perfect throughout the stroke.
What matters is what happens at impact.
If you can return the face to the correct orientation at impact, you can still start the ball where you want it and hole the putt.
So instead of obsessing over making your stroke look perfect…
Focus on controlling the face and returning it correctly at impact. 👑
Your putting stroke doesn’t have to look perfect.
It just has to work.
Agree or disagree? 👇🏼

And honestly… this went far too well 😂 I’d be absolutely delighted if this was the standard every time I played golf!
Now the question is… can I keep it going for the rest of the round? 🤔

Struggling with speed control? 🎯 Try these 2 drills.
The 3 biggest factors in putting are:
⛳️ Start line
⛳️ Speed control
⛳️ Green reading
These two drills are great for improving your speed control 👇🏼
1️⃣ FEEL THE CONNECTION
2 alignment sticks under the arms to feel the chest and hands working together as one unit.
Recently seen with players like Tiger Woods & Tom Kim 👀
You can run the sticks behind the handle or, like I’m doing here, through the hands.
2️⃣ FIND THE CENTRE
A drill we’ve all seen before… but how often do you actually practise it? 👀
Place 2 tees either side of the putter head and hit putts from around 3–6ft.
Toe or heel strike it? 💥 You’ll know straight away.
The big tip with both…
Stay free and let the putter swing.
Your stroke might move slightly offline, and that’s okay. Some of the best strokes do.
As long as the putter returns to the right place at impact, you’re good. 🎯
If you stiffen up trying to guide the putter through the gate and worry about every millimetre, you’ll almost certainly make it harder.
Better strike + better feel = better speed control & more consistency. ⛳️
Save this and give them a go next time you’re on the green 👊🏼
Even Shane Lowry recommends this… 👇⛳️
If one of the best players in the world says 90% of amateur golfers would benefit from adding a slight pause at the top of the backswing, it’s probably worth giving it a go.
Most amateurs rush the transition. The club reaches the top and immediately starts down, making it much harder to sequence the swing and strike the ball consistently.
Instead, try feeling a brief moment of patience at the top. You don’t need to freeze or create a dramatic pause. Just give your body and the club a split second to organise themselves before starting the downswing.
The amount of “pause” will feel different for everyone, but it’s one of the easiest things you can experiment with at the range and, for many golfers, it can improve contact almost straight away. 💥
Give it a try during your next practice session and let me know if you notice a difference! 👇

What to expect in your first lesson…. ⚠️
Every golfer has habits that are costing them shots. The first step isn’t changing everything… it’s understanding why those habits happen.
Gaz came in looking to improve his ball striking. Together we:
✅ Identified the biggest issues holding him back
🧠 Explained why they were happening in a way that made sense
📋 Built a clear plan to work through over the winter
⛳ Made a few simple changes that gave him better contact straight away, while keeping the bigger picture in mind
There’s no magic fix. Just a structured plan, the right information, and improvements that actually last.
If you’re tired of guessing and want to know exactly what your swing needs, let’s get to work. 👊
