Beverley Barracudas Swimming Club

Hello everyone,

I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself as I have recently taken on the role of Volunteer Welfare Officer for Beverley Barracudas Swimming Club following the recent completion of my training.

Many of you may already know me through my previous volunteering at galas, including supporting with the medal table, marshalling and timekeeping, and through being in the yellow seats regularly while my children train (Harry in comp C and Autumn in Dev B). I am usually around at training sessions on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

As Welfare Officer, my role is to support the welfare, wellbeing and safeguarding of our swimmers and volunteers, and to act as a confidential and approachable point of contact should any concerns arise. This includes working closely with coaches to ensure concerns are handled appropriately, in line with club and Swim England safeguarding guidance.

Alongside my club involvement, I bring over 20 years’ experience working within the NHS, where my roles have regularly involved managing safeguarding and welfare concerns, including supporting children, young people and families.

Over the coming month you may see me poolside more while I introduce myself to swimmers during training sessions so they are aware of who I am, what the Welfare Officer role is, and how they can seek support if needed.

Big changes at Beverley Barracudas 🏁

We’re excited to share that the club now has an all-new, highly dedicated committee driving a fresh vision for our swimmers. We’ve also been recruiting additional experienced coaches so training can be more personalised — helping every swimmer get the focused support they need to progress.

This is a fundamental step-change for the Barracudas. Plans are being put in place to raise standards across the board so our club can perform at the highest levels once again.

If your child loves water and wants to be competitive, this is the right place for them. From first races to county, regional and beyond, we’ll give them the environment, structure and encouragement to thrive.

Our club is continuing to expand becoming one of the main competitive swmming clubs in the area. We have Level 3 Senoir coaches and Level 2 coaches as well as numerous level 1 coaches which give us a great base to imrpove swimmers to reach potential.
We have increased pooltime and have the capacity to take swimmers at all levels into our programme.

We have recentltly welcomed swimmers who are No1 in the Uk for their stroke and distance. If you want to start your swiimmimg journey or would like to be involved in a progressive club that creates a culture of hard work and enjoyment please go to our website and fill in the join our club form. Our fees are the best value for money in the whole of the UK. Starting at £26 increasing to £38 for out top squad for 14 hours swim plus land.

We organise long course training camp each year. In the last 3 years we have been to Barcelona , Majorca and this year Mount Kelly. A full week of Long Course swimming in preparation for British and Regioanl events.

120 of our swimmers took part in our Development meet on Sunday. This is licenced at level 4 allowing 8 year old to gian asa official times. We also ran 25m events for our young swimmers as well as 50s and 200m events. Some excellent first time swims with some county times registered.

Well done Barracudas. We will be running a series of level 4 events in 2025 to maximise the swimmers opportunities.

This Saturday night the club is joining up with Radio Humberside who are currently engaged in thier mile a day challenge. 5 presenters are swimming 1 mile a day for 5 day all in aid of Children in Need.
On Saturday morning and night our club will swim 365 miles (a mile a day for a year) to support this great charity. Children raising money for children.
Our target is to raise £1000 on the day. We are asking everyone to give a donation on the night for their child to swim. If everyone donates £5 we would be well on our way to our target.
We will have music and a fun experience as all the swimmers will do as many lengths as they can. Radio Humberside will be there from 4.30pm so it may you or your child will be interviewed.
If you have any children in need banners ,hats etc please bring them along with your valued support.
Please come for your normal training session AND County A B & C are invited to the first session 4.30pm to 5.45.
UPDATE All the coaches are going to donate to coach Saturdays session.
