FT Corfe Mullen United 3- Bere Regis Reserve 2

The Regis reserves made the journey to play Corfe Mullen United in the team's first away game of the 26/27 season. Bere started the game comfortable playing a really good standard of football on the overgrown pitch but that wasn't to say that Corfe Mullen weren't retaliating with good football of their own.
22 Minutes in Bere broke the deadlock with young debutant Joel Shotter sloting a through ball via Martin Rolfe through the keepers' legs to lead 1-0.
This was followed 5 minutes later by an elegant piece of link up play between Joel Norris and Martin Rolfe that resulted in the second goal of the day, A fantastic round the corner pass from Norris on the halfway line allowing Rolfe to use his speed to beat the defence and get on the end of the pass before he rolled it back to Norris who found the corner of the goal neatly to take a 2-0 lead.
In the 33rd minute Corfe clawed one back with a header at the back post from a free kick which was also an issue in the previous game showing that the issue of back post defending was still one the Regis had to figure out and quick. It then turned into a relentless barrage from Corfe as keeper Carl Hann had to make a sharp stop to turn the striker's effort for a corner.
Shortly after a defensive error allowed Corfe Mullen a wide-open goal that no would miss turning what was looking like a dominant display from Bere to back to square 1.
The barrage didn't stop at pulling it level for Corfe as they kept pinning Bere back right to half time and moments before the half time whistle the Corfe winger put them into the lead with an effort that was surely a cross but instead found its way in the back of the net

The second half didn't start as eventful as the first for either team, it took till around the 65th minute until Bere created their first chance of the half with Owen Dytham getting on the end of A long kick from Hann. Shortly it was followed by another chance from Dytham getting his head on the end of the dangerous Minett throw. The 3rd big chance in a matter of moments for Bere was Rolfe being 1 on 1 after a tidy through ball from Minett but the keeper making a good save and this was Bere putting a lot of pressure on towards the end of the second half trying to claw back a goal which almost came from Dytham again getting a chance from Rolfe who was trying his best to make something happen.
Minutes from the whistle keeper Hann unfortunately found himself unable to continue which resulted in young Billy Mynard swapping his cricket wicket keeping gloves for goalkeeper ones and the only action he faced was in the opposite half as seconds before full time he got his head on a corner but it didn't trouble his opposite number and the Regis fell to a 3-2 defeat.
At the end the feeling is of mixed emotions there wouldn't have been much better passages of football than what Bere produced in the first 20 minutes on the long surface but you could not knock the effort from the team who ran on tired legs all game, something that would make Kev Lillington proud seeing such a big effort from the side who played today donning black armbands in his honour and we also thank Corfe Mullen for joining us in a minutes silence in his honour.
Bere look to improve on today next week as we make the short trip to local rivals Milborne St Andrew.
