Yesterday I lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament recognising the fantastic contribution made by the young volunteers from Bellshill Sharks ASC during the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

They were fantastic ambassadors for both their club and our community, giving up their time to help make a major international sporting event such a success.

Opportunities like this help young people build confidence, develop new skills and inspire the next generation of volunteers.

Congratulations to every volunteer, along with everyone at Bellshill Sharks ASC and Scottish Swimming, for giving Bellshill yet another thing to be incredibly proud of.

After an unforgettable few weeks, our Bellshill Sharks team can finally enjoy a well-deserved few days of rest! 💙🦈

Our swimmers were absolutely outstanding as volunteers throughout the Commonwealth Games, representing Bellshill Sharks with professionalism, dedication, and pride every single day.

To top it all off, their incredible contribution was recognised with a special shout-out in the Scottish Parliament – a truly proud moment for everyone connected with our club.

We couldn’t be prouder of what our volunteers have achieved. They have been fantastic ambassadors for Bellshill Sharks and an inspiration to our younger swimmers.

We’re incredibly proud of our Bellshill Sharks swimmers, who spent this week volunteering at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games! 🦈🏊‍♂️

What an unforgettable week for our amazing young volunteers!

A group of Bellshill Sharks swimmers had the incredible honour of volunteering at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games at Tollcross International Swimming Centre, playing an important role behind the scenes of one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

From helping organise races and preparing athletes for competition, to ensuring every session ran smoothly, our swimmers experienced first-hand what it takes to deliver an international championship. Along the way, they had the opportunity to meet world-class athletes, Olympic and Commonwealth champions, officials, coaches and volunteers from across the globe.

This experience wasn’t just about volunteering—it was about learning, inspiring, growing in confidence, and becoming part of something truly special. We hope it motivates every one of them to continue chasing their own dreams in and out of the pool.

We are incredibly proud of how they represented Bellshill Sharks ASC with professionalism, enthusiasm and a smile throughout the week. You were fantastic ambassadors for our club and our community.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this opportunity possible, and congratulations to all of our young volunteers. You should be immensely proud of yourselves!

A huge well done to both Amy and Rebecca on their respective swims at the Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships in Sheffield! Both girls gave it their best with strong swims and have gained invaluable experience competing at this highly prestigious event! It is a huge achivement to qualify and you both did the Sharks proud! 🦈🏊‍♀️❤️🇬🇧

Sunday highlights...

Allanah- a strong 50m Breast heat swim with a new seasons best, qualifying for tonights final improving on heat time and taking the silver medal! 🥈

Amy- strong heat swims in the 100m Free and 200m Back to qualify for finals. A fantastic 100m Free final just missing out on the medals in 4th place with a new pb, and a brilliant 200m Back final taking the bronze medal and a 3 seconds pb! 🥉

Rebecca- pulling 2 excellent pb heat swims in the 100m Free and 50m Fly to qualify for finals in both! A fantastic tough fought 100m Free final to take bronze in a new pb! 🥉 Pb in 50m fly final finishing 9th!

Sophie- fantastic heat winning swim and new pb to qualify for the final finishing in 10th! 🥳🦈

Isabella- outstanding 400m IM swim taking a 16 seconds pb finishing 6th! New pb 200m Back! 🥳🦈

Adam- fantastic 400m IM with a 15 seconds pb finishing 7th 🥳🦈

Sean- strong 400m IM with a 5 seconds pb finishing 8th 🥳🦈
