Ormeau Road Boxing-Club

The season came to a close with another brilliant display of boxing in Dublin. Thanks to Jay Byrne for putting our boxers on the bill. This is the third show we have attended and loved every minute. Our fighters and travelling supporters were served up a treat. Now for a well earned rest until August (except for Luke who takes to Wales next week for the Heart of the Dragon Box Cup in Swansea). See you all in August raring to go for a busy start to next season.

Well done to Saorlaith, Osian and Seamus who all put on excellent displays of boxing against strong opposition on St. George's ABC End of Season show. It was good to see Seamus back in action after an injury lay off, Osian building on his title success earlier this year and Saorlaith continuing to flourish after claiming this year's national title.

Team Ormeau return to action in Leopardstown on July 10th with a very strong squad travelling to Dublin. An action packed card sees Luke, Seamus, Sean, Ria, Shea, Osian and Anto all in action. Following Luke's 'Boxer of the Night' performance last time, all the squad are aiming for strong performances. Thanks to Jay Byrne for having us on the card again.

Ever ready to take a challenge, Luke answered a late call to the Beechlawn to box against an American team from Detroit. Boxing against a heavier and older opponent, Luke produced another wonderful display of boxing. On the back of winning Boxer of the Night in Leopardstown last month, Luke continued his fine form with another dominant victory.

***CHAMPION***Huge congratulations to Carly on putting on a brilliant display last Saturday to claim the IIBU title. After a long lay off, Carly returned to the ring in a 5 round barn Stormer against the talented champion Zoe McCaughran. Carly showed outstanding grit, shot selection and fitness to claim a unanimous decision and take the title.

Team Ormeau travelled to Leopardstown yesterday to watch Luke, Shay and Aaron take to the ring on another brilliant Jay Byrne Promotions show.

Shay gave away weight and age against a tough opponent and banked 3 excellent valuable rounds. Shay has had a great season winning titles and boxing twice in Dublin.

Aaron made his Ormeau Road debut against a tough boxer from Ledley Hall and showed some fantastic boxing. Next season is a big one for Aaron to showcase his talent.

Luke stepped in against former national champion Callum Carragher and put on a simply sensational display of boxing. Judging range extremely well and unleashing some lightning accurate shots saw Luke crowned 'Boxer of the Night'.

Next week sees Luke return to the ring in his second outing on Jay Byrne promotions show in Leopardstown. Aaron joins Luke on the card and we're excited to see them in action. Both boxers are looking sharp and raring to go. Ormeau Road are travelling in style and can't wait to make the journey down to support the lads. Team Ormeau 🥊

Conor, Eoin and Georgia took to the ring this week in the County Antrim Senior Championships.
On his championship debut, Conor showed outstanding grit and conditioning in a tough contest. He missed out via decision.
The Ormeau Road warrior Eoin Vaugh had a barnstorming contest against a strong opponent showing his iron will and good shot variation. Eoin also missed out via decision.
Georgia stepped up a weight class to keep active and boxed very well. Unfortunately she was on the wrong end of a split decision.

Thanks to Bangor Abbey Boxing Academy for having us on their show on Sunday against a talented group of boxers. More experience gained and some superb performances. Well done to all.
