Malone Rugby Football Club was founded in 1892 by residents of Malone Park, Belfast.
From this beginning, with thirteen playing and a dozen non-playing members, the Club has grown to one of the largest and most successful Clubs in Irish Rugby. After two successive Junior League wins, the Club was granted Senior status in 1896 and played its first game at this level against Collegians, losing, but acquitting themselves very well for a newly promoted club. The Senior Menโs teams hosted De La Salle Palmerston FC at Gibson Park for a preโseason friendly and the annual Des Merry Memorial Trophy fixture, with Malone coming away with the win after a strong collective performance.
It was valuable game time for all players involved, giving coaches the chance to rotate the squad and build momentum ahead of the new season.
A big thank you to Chris Elliott for refereeing the match.Speedy recovery to the Salmo player that picked up an injury
