Donegal Celtic 2019s – Weekend Group Analysis 💚⚽️

Another really positive weekend across the full 2019 group, with the Dragons, Bulldogs, Pitbulls and Tigers all showing clear progress in different areas of their game.

Across the four games this weekend:

2 wins • 1 draw • 1 defeat

Plenty of goals, four strong performances and, most importantly, clear signs of progress across the full group.

As a coaching group, the biggest thing we are seeing is the development becoming more consistent across all four teams.

The 🐲 Dragons produced another massive improvement and matched their opponents throughout. Their energy, tackling, attacking play and attitude were excellent. The next stage is learning how to manage the game when we are in control and see those moments out.

The 🐶 Bulldogs were involved in a proper end-to-end game against a strong side. Despite the result, the performance showed how much they are developing. Positional play, tracking back, confidence in 1v1s and willingness to play were all there.

The 🐕 Pitbulls were excellent in how they passed, moved and worked for each other. Their pressing, movement off the ball and willingness to win possession back showed another step forward. The boys are looking more relaxed on the ball and making better decisions.

The 🐯 Tigers showed real character and resilience. After starting strongly, they were put under pressure and had to respond when the momentum changed. Their belief, ability to reset and keep playing was a big positive.

Across the whole group we are seeing improvement in:

Positioning • Passing & movement • 1v1 confidence • Pressing • Tracking back • Decision-making • Resilience • Work rate

This weekend’s MOTMs:

🐲 Dragons – Jamie
Outstanding and a constant threat throughout. Six goals, while also putting in the work defensively.

🐶 Bulldogs – Matteo
Another standout performance. Set the tempo through the middle, confident taking players on and always looking to make something happen.

🐕 Pitbulls – Evan
A huge step up in work rate. Pressed, won the ball back, worked for his teammates and was rewarded with a hat-trick.

🐯 Tigers – Ryso
A real goalkeeper’s performance. Reset after difficult moments, made two massive 1v1 saves and finished it off with a penalty save.

For us as coaches, the biggest positive is seeing more of what we work on in training transferring naturally into games.

Results will come and go. The development trajectory of the full 2019 group continues to move upwards.

Four teams. Four strong performances. Plenty of goals. One 2019 group continuing to develop together. 💚⚽️

Another milestone moment as our youngest age group gets going this weekend also .

First ever 2021 squad with their first run out Friday evening. This isn't these kids first run out & that was clear to see on the pitch. It is going to be a strong competitive season for the new kids of DC youth

Well done Aoife, Alayah, Conan, Katie & Caolán.

It’s another milestone moment for Donegal Celtic youth academy as we had our first ever 2011s game .

We now have teams playing 11aisde , 9aside , 7 aside , 5 aside 4 aside and baby ballers

We are delighted to have the lads at 2011 as it will give our younger lads someone to look up too and we can’t wait to go to their game .

2015 presentation

Our 3 club men of the year in the 2015s, with their proud parents, these the boys where at every training session, helping out lift balls bibs and counting kits, but most important they played 2 games a week for the full season to make sure everyone got a game

Well done lads well deserved 👏

Our 2 most improved players from 2015s, young grace started the season never kicking a ball and how much this young girl has came on would frightening just keeps getting better and better.

Young Laiden was the most consistent kid his level went up and up throughout the season, looking forward to more progress 🙌 💪

Young Decky and Jayden from our 2015s both win players player of the season, well deserved from both lads 🔥

Donegal Celtic 2019s – Weekend Round-Up 💚⚽️

A really positive week across the full 2019 group, with all four teams out, plenty of goals scored and some excellent performances.

As a coaching group, the biggest positive for us is the progress we are seeing across the whole age group.

Three teams picked up wins, while one team came away without the result — but the performance was still a massive positive and showed how far that group has come.

Across the Tigers, Bulldogs, Dragons and Pitbulls, there has been a clear step forward in confidence, decision-making, movement and understanding of the game.

We are seeing better first touches, stronger 1v1 confidence, improved passing and movement, and more boys willing to make their own decisions.

Without the ball, the teams are also improving. The boys are starting to understand the press, recovery, protecting areas and supporting each other as a unit.

Another big positive is the versatility developing across the group, with players becoming comfortable in different positions and learning different responsibilities.

A special mention to this week’s MOTMs:

🐯 Tigers – Quinnso
Goals, strong link-up play and continued development from last season.

🐶 Bulldogs – Matteo
A superb attacking display with confidence, quality and outstanding finishing.

🐉 Dragons – Cohen
Strong defensively, excellent in the tackle and confident carrying the ball forward.

🐕 Pitbulls – James
A big performance through the middle, working hard and influencing the game at both ends.

There is still plenty to learn, but that is part of development at this age.

The important thing for us is the trajectory. We are seeing more of what we work on in training appearing naturally in matches.

4 teams. 4 strong performances. Plenty of goals. One 2019 group moving forward together. 💚⚽️

UPAAAAA DC! 💚

2016 - presentation

1st Club man of the year :
Che McKeown who is DC through and through. Gives 100% at every training session. Always shows up with a great attitude and great behaviour.

2nd club man of the year:
Padraig Smith who plays 2 and sometimes 3 games per week for DC. A great kid, a solid keeper and a pleasure to have at our club.

1st most improved player - Zac O’Neil who has worked very hard this season. A hard hitting centre forward who put fear into any defence. He can find the net.

2nd most improved player:

Jaxon Meli - first season at the club with spells playing in both teams. This tricky winger has went from strength to strength.

1st Players player of the year:

Marcus ‘the bull’ Carson - a strong midfielder who battles from the first to the final whistle and gives everything for his team. A young Roy Keane! Very well deserved player of the year.

2 players player of the year - Ronan McIlhatton - who has had a fantastic season, leading his team to many great results. Hard in the tackle and excellent up the right. A very well deserved award. One to watch in the future.
