🌟 A huge congratulations to our incredible coaches on the success of Letterkenny Athletic Club's Athletics for Children with Autism pilot programme.⚫🟑

This fantastic initiative created a fun, inclusive and supportive environment where children could enjoy athletics, build confidence and develop new skills. The positive feedback from children, parents and coaches has been overwhelming, making it a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

We're proud of what has been achieved and look forward to building on this success to make athletics accessible and enjoyable for all. πŸ’™πŸ’›

The strong winds made for challenging conditions, but that didn’t stop some fantastic performances across the course.

Well done to everyone who crossed the finish line, whether you were chasing a personal best or simply enjoying the challenge. Your efforts in those very windy conditions were truly impressive.

A huge thank you as well to the organisers, volunteers, and supporters who helped make the event such a success.

Letterkenny Athletic Club enjoyed a superb opening day at the National Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Tullamore, producing two national champions and a string of podium finishes in an outstanding display.
The headline performance came from Harry McElwaine, who etched his name into the record books by winning the Under-18 100 metres in a new championship record of 10.79 seconds. Having comfortably qualified with 10.87 seconds, McElwaine produced an even faster run in the final to erase the previous championship best of 10.84 set last year.
The talented sprinter, coached by Kathryn McDevitt at the Aura Leisure Complex, surged clear of Tallaght AC’s Abdullahi Adeleke (10.91) and Orangegrove AC’s Luke Callaghan (11.20). His winning time also eclipsed the long-standing Donegal mark of 10.88 seconds set by Finn Valley’s Brian Doyle in 2008, making McElwaine the fastest Donegal-born athlete over 100 metres.
Erin Friel rounded off her juvenile career in style by claiming national gold in the Under-19 400 metres. The Newtowncunningham athlete crossed the line in an impressive 54.92 seconds, comfortably ahead of Sofia Granjo of St Laurence O’Toole AC (55.60) and Emer Brennan of Clonmel AC (57.14). Friel had earlier progressed with ease after winning her heat in 55.92 seconds.
Already an EYOF bronze medallist and an Irish senior international following her appearance at the World Athletics Relays earlier this year, Friel once again underlined her immense potential with another national title.
Letterkenny AC also collected four additional medals during an excellent day of competition.
Adam McCauley secured bronze in the Under-16 high jump after clearing 1.70 metres, while Danny McKinley claimed silver in the Under-19 400 metres in 50.12 seconds, narrowly ahead of Cranford AC’s Michael Moore.
In the field events, Cliff Zinyemba earned silver in the Under-13 javelin with a best throw of 27.11 metres.
Sprint prospect Brendan Ndambira added another medal to the club’s tally, taking bronze in the Under-17 100 metres. After setting the fastest qualifying time of 11.00 seconds in the heats, Ndambira ran 10.98 seconds in the final to secure his place on the podium.
The haul of two national titles, one silver and three bronze medals ensured Letterkenny AC enjoyed one of its most successful opening days at the National Juvenile Championships, with several athletes still in contention as the championships continued in Tullamore.
Well done to everyone who represented the club with pride today. A fantastic achievement to reach and compete at All-Ireland level β€” congratulations to all involved.
