A good first performance from the U18s, with the bare 11. The hardwork and effort was something as coaches we couldn’t ask for more.

We took the lead 3 times, but unfortunately conceded a late equaliser as we began to tire.

A tough start to the season for us today as we faced a strong Shefford Town & Campton side, who have come down from Step 6 and played to their strengths throughout.

With 8 debutants in the squad, we knew today would be a big learning experience for the group.

The opening stages saw us play some good football, with positive combination play and some good movement into attacking areas. Unfortunately, we struggled to deal with crosses and long throws into our box in the first half, particularly with the initial and second balls, and found ourselves 6–0 down at the break.

The second half was a much more even contest. Shefford had more of the possession, but we looked far more organised and continued to work hard. We conceded once more from a cross, but there were plenty of positives to take from the second 45.

The hard work, desire, willingness to run and fight were all there, and that attitude will be important as we continue to build this team.

There are areas we need to improve, particularly defending crosses and long throws, and we’ll work hard on those things going forward.

For a new group with so many debutants, today was another opportunity to learn, develop and grow together. We know it will take time, but the hard work continues.
