Tell Andy Burnham: Save the North Sea from plastic pellet disaster One of the UK's biggest spills of plastic pellets (or “nurdles”) is flooding the North East’s coastline. It could harm wildlife in the North Sea for decades. Thousands of volunteers – including Friends of the Earth local action groups – are doing everything they can to clean up the nurdles...

Qigong for Vitality - Feel Your Best With A Simple Qigong Practice 22/06/2026

I was away from classes for a few days last week, laying low with a virus. It was a good opportunity to practise what I so often encourage others to do: rest! (You may or may not know, I find resting rather challenging...!)

Whenever I'm feeling depleted or under the weather, I find myself returning to a few trusted practices: yoga nidra, restorative yoga, and Qi Gong.

The style of yoga I originally trained in, Dru Yoga, includes many Qi Gong influences, and that's what first led me to explore it further.

I love the flowing, repetitive, breath-led movements. It really allows you to drop into the present moment. It's a wonderful practice for shifting both energy and state of mind, in a way that feels nourishing rather than demanding.

There's a brilliant Qi Gong teacher in Leeds called Barney Bardsley. If you ever have the opportunity to practise with her, please do!

I also regularly use Qi Gong for Vitality, as pictured here on my laptop. The website was created by Jeffrey Chand, a Qi Gong teacher and acupuncturist based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. His videos are filmed against the backdrop of the stunning British Columbian landscape, and they're every bit as beautiful as the practices themselves:

If you've enjoyed my restorative classes, I highly recommend exploring Qi Gong for yourself. It pairs beautifully with a regular yoga practice and offers another gentle way to cultivate balance, vitality and ease.

I''m happy to be back to teaching this week and classes will be running as usual. Restorative Week in all yoga classes begins on Thursday.

June Yoga Theme: Creating Space

How often do we rush from one thing to the next, leaving little room to really experience what's happening in the moment?

And does this habit creep into your yoga practice? (It certainly does in mine!)

This month, we'll be exploring the theme of space, using Triangle and Rotated Triangle as our guides.

Together we'll investigate how creating stability can lead to greater freedom, how grounding can support expansion, and how a little more space in the body can often create a little more space in the mind.

As always, plenty of modifications will be offered, including the use of chairs and blocks. Every individual body will do their own individual version of the pose - the photos attached are just a guide.

Join me this June as we slow down, breathe deeply and create a little more room for ourselves, in body, mind and heart 🩵
