Beaconsfield Rugby Club - Community

Beaconsfield Rugby Club - Community The official page for Beaconsfield RFC. Contains 1XV, 2XV, Bandits XV and Womens XV information. In 2022, BRFC are celebrating our 70th anniversary.

We have seen many changes in this time, and are currently host to 3 Senior men's sides, a wealth of Mini and Youth players, and girl's team at U12, U14, U16, and U18 (the Bobcats!). We are a family oriented Club with a strong TREDS ethos. Enjoyment is at the centre of everything we do, and it's proved a good strategy through players returning to our Senior side having played with us at Youth and Mini level. The Club is run by many volunteers. The more we expand and build up our various sides, the more support we need. If you would like to become involved in the Club in any capacity, please do let us know - just like any rugby team there's a place for everyone!

71 points on the board to finish preseason in style against Newbury Blues RFC!

A dominant performance from start to finish at today at Braywick Park. ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ’ฅ

โ€‹The game was played at Maidenhead RFC who kindly hosted us on their new 4G pitch. Huge thank you to the BRFC supporters for the incredible support who made the players feel like it was a normal day at home at Oak Lodge Meadows. Onwards to next week, we go again.

Hope everyone is enjoying their super hot summer. Not quite as ridiculously hot here in Ireland but still bliss none the less. Whilst most people have been enjoying themselves as always there has been a huge amount going on behind the scenes and we thought it would be useful to update everyone with some key elements of newsโ€ฆ..

Season Postponement:
Firstly as you may have heard, due to the dry conditions the RFU have taken the sensible decision to postpone the start of competitive rugby by two weeks. That may well get extended again if the current trend continues but lets wait and see. For mini and juniors there is no change and we will still be starting the new season on the 1st Sunday in September, (the 6th), but will ensure training is adapted to the conditions. For senior men and women first league matches are now not until 26th Sept at the earliest.

New Floodlight Application:
Working in conjunction with the RFU we are submitting planning applications imminently for new floodlights on the middle pitch. Our success with growing both the womenโ€™s and girls rugby, in addition to a number of junior boys teams training mid-week our main pitch simply has struggled to cope with the demand. The new lights would be more effective, with less light spillage so hopefully this would be a win win scenario for the club and itโ€™s neighbours. This is a significant expenditure for the club, somewhere between ยฃ80-ยฃ100,000 and will require some specific fundraising activity. Watch this space for updates on the planning process.

GMS Migration:
We have now switched off SportsMember and are using the RFU GMS system for collecting subs, issuing comms as well as player registration. Hopefully this will ease the administration burden for everyone and give us a more effective platform to manage the key finances of the club.

New Website Coming Imminently:
Related to above we have created a new website for the club. The new site looks next level stuff and we are incredibly grateful to Alex Watson and his company Tiny_ for all the work they have undertaken to pull this together. We have a few final touches to get done before we go live but hopefully this will be before the season starts.

Upcoming Ball:
Our Late Summer Ball is scheduled for Saturday 19th Sept. A massive amount of work has gone on behind the scenes over the past twelve months and we are extremely grateful to Russ Whitlock and the whole team. I believe they are still in the market for raffle prizes so if anyone has anything they could contribute, please reach out.

Subs and Player Registration:
GMS is now open for paying subs and getting players registered for upcoming season. Click on this link for either - https://gms.rfu.com/GMS/Dashboard/Individual. If you have any specific question on membership you can reach out to Richard Logan our new membership secretary ([email protected])

AGM - Tuesday 15th Sept:
Our annual general meeting is scheduled for Tuesday the 15th Sept at the club. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend to hear both our progress over the past twelve months as well as our future plans and challenges. AGM papers, including accounts and reports etc to be issued in the coming fortnight.

RIP - Mike Mahony:
Finally it is with sadness that we record the passing of Mike Mahony on the 14th August. Mike came to Beaconsfield in the 60s and joined our club from Hendon RFC. Together with Peter Dodds, and Michael and Robin Harper, Mike was one of the founders of the Beaconsfield Mini Section. He donned the green and gold for many years, ending his playing days in the legendary Boars Vets XV before going to live in Spain. He will be much missed by his many friends at BRFC. Our sincere condolences go to his family especially to Sarah, Haley and Stuart.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in early September, canโ€™t wait to get the new season underway

I'm sad to inform you that Mike Mahony passed away in Spain on Friday 14th August. He joined Beaconsfield Rugby Club in the mid 60"s at the old clubhouse, Small Burnham Hall, having previously been a member at Hendon. He was an active member of the club for many years and then upon retirement he moved to Spain. He is survived by two daughters and one son who all reside in South Bucks. RIP Mike

Last night the boys swapped their rugby boots for running shoes as we took on the annual King of the Hill challenge. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธโ›ฐ๏ธ

The session started with a tough 3K before moving into a relay, and we finished things off with the hill itself. Safe to say there were a few tired legs by the end!

A massive effort from everyone who turned up. Itโ€™s great to see the hard work going in already, with plenty of old and new faces getting stuck in. Pre-season is off to a strong start, and thereโ€™s plenty more to come.

New players are always welcome โ€“ training every Tuesday and Thursday, 7:00pmโ€“8:30pm.

With a very heavy heart and great sadness I share the news that we have lost one of our members way too young. Ken Cotter, a club stalwart, sadly passed away yesterday morning (July 4th). Our support, love and thoughts, go out to his wife Niamh, his children Grace and Christian as well as his siblings Barry, Garett and Libby, parents Gerry and Catherine, brother in law Gerry (Goss) and all the extended family. The Cotter clan as a whole has had a remarkable impact on the rugby club spanning over many years, but none more than Kenny.

Ken was only 52. People throw around the term โ€œlegend" a lot but Ken epitomised the legend status. He was one of the funniest men youโ€™d ever meet, always smiling, welcoming and a constant mischievous glint in his eye. He was a brilliant rugby player, one of the best to ever don the Beaconsfield shirt, playing either at fly-half or full back. He didnโ€™t just run, he glided, akin to Jerry Guscott, and with skill levels to match. In one match in open space he pulled the ball behind his back, drop it on to his heel, the kick went over his head as well as the defending player, regathered the ball behind the defence and ran unopposed under the posts. His skill levels were simply off the charts.

He was also a team man. Captained the Colts as well as the 1st XV. He was an out and out leader and people always followed Kenny. Members of his Colts team are still his closest friends today and they have been through an awful lot together.
He has been taken far too early and it's a horrible shock to everyone close to Ken and his family.

We will share funeral details once known.

Huge condolences to Niamh, Grace and Christian and the whole extended Cotter family.
RIP Ken ###x
