Financial Control & Cost Management
Being busy doesn’t mean you’re profitable.
This is one of the biggest mistakes in hospitality.
Full venue. Strong sales.
But margins are leaking everywhere.
Poor stock control.
Inconsistent portioning.
Labour not aligned to demand.
In Reignite, I break down financial control into practical, usable steps — not spreadsheets for the sake of it, but systems that actually protect margin.
Because if you don’t control your numbers, your business controls you.
Ask yourself:
👉 Do you really know where your profit is made — and where it’s lost?
If not, this is where to start:

The moment everything stopped making sense
“The job that nearly broke me is the one that made me as a leader.”
I once managed a hotel in North Yorkshire where nothing added up.
Staff turning up without being paid.
Suppliers chasing invoices daily.
And an owner full of promises—but no action.
From the outside, we were “open for business.”
Inside, it was chaos held together by a few people refusing to let it collapse.
And I did what most managers do…
I carried it.
I took responsibility for things that were never mine.
I protected the business.
I shielded the team from the reality.
But here’s the problem with that mindset:
You end up enabling dysfunction instead of fixing it.
That was my breaking point.
It forced me to ask a question I think every operator needs to face:
👉 At what point does loyalty become self-destruction?
That experience changed how I lead forever.
It’s also where the foundations of Reignite really began.
