BATH A - 2026 PREMIER LEAGUE 1 WINNERS

29th August - Final league results
Prem 1 - Bath A travelled to Yeovil A needing a minimum of 8 pts to win the league. After staying at the top of the league throughout the whole season, confidence was quite high before the game. The weather on Saturday was torrential rain at time and sunny intervals, interspersed with drizzly showers. What greeted Bath upon arriving at Yeovil was a green, without being rude or insulting, that was quite simply horrendous and had been completely under water just before arrival. But the game had to be played and it was a real struggle for our guys. To be fair, the Yeovil guys played the surface much better than us.
At the halfway stage there was only 1 shot in the game in favour of Yeovil, and the home side never relinquished the lead for the rest of the game, eventually winning the game 9pts to 3pts.
Bob Richards rink were in a tight tussle all the way through, ending with a 16-16 draw.
Chris Spurrey's rink were always in control and never behind on the score, but never feeling comfortable, eventually winning 16-10.
Dale Taylor's rink again were in contention up to the 10th end, when a 3 and a 4 took the home side away in front, ending up 12-24.
The end result was Bath 44, Yeovil 50 and only 3pts picked up by Bath. There was a lot of disappointment all round until the result that our contender for the title - Taunton A- had also lost 10-2, which made Bath A the winners by 6pts.

Prem 2 - Bath B were away to St Andrews A. Sadly lost on all 3 rinks 32-61, picking up 0pts to opponents 12pts. Bath B are currently in 7th place (out of 12) on 59pts and hopefully safe(?) but there are a couple of results still to come in which could change things.

East 2 - The Bath C side were playing at home hosting Norwest B, sadly losing their final game 33-52 and picking up just 2pts, but comfortably ending up in the top half of the table in 5th place (out of 11).

Penultimate weekend results in the Men's Somerset League 15/08/26

Prem 1 - Bath A vs Watchet A ended in a 54-54 shots draw, earning both teams 6 points each. A hard fought game, as expected with both teams in the top 3. Watchet A off to a flyer in the first 5 ends, leading 21-8. Bath A pulled in back to even 32-32 after 10 ends and the game was still evenly poised after 15 ends with Watchet 47-45 in front. The game came down to the final bowls on the last two rinks to finish/ With Spurrey's rink finishing 22-7 and the game tied at 52-52, Chris Elley's rink were holding 2 shots with his last bowl to come but sadly could not add the extra shot, finishing 14-29. On the other rink, Watchet were holding shot with 2 bowls to come. Neil Williams played an excellent bowl to get second bowl and again, sadly, Dale Taylor didn't change it with his last bowl finishing 18-18. Still all to play for in the last game at Yeovil, with Bath A holding a 15pts lead having played a game more than Taunton A in second place.

Prem 2 - Bath B vs Congresbury A ended 52-42 in favour of Bath, who picked up 11pts to 1pt. Again a tight game throughout with Bath 22-6 up after 5 ends and Congresbury coming back after 10 ends to 30-24 still in favour of Bath. After 15 ends the game was tighter still, 39-38 to Bath and the home side just pulling away over the final ends.

With two games to go in Prem 1, Bath A are still top with a 9 point lead. In Prem 2, Bath B are in 8th with 48 points. In East 2, Bath C are in 5th with 52 points.

Bath A winning streak came to end this weekend with a 46 - 55 home defeat to last year's league winners Taunton A. Bath still remain top of Prem 1 but the points difference has now been reduced to just 4, with Taunton now up into 2nd place. Bath B & Bath C teams also lost their matches away.
