An exercise I’ve been using a lot lately, both in my own training and with my students at , is the B stance deadlift.

Initially, we introduced it as a way to help those going through pregnancy keep the posterior chain strong, especially if other single leg variations caused any pelvic discomfort.

From there, it was a great opportunity to introduce it to the rest of our students.

It helps beginners understand and get the feel for a single leg deadlift without having to worry as much about balance and stability.

Our more advanced students have been able to progressively overload it much more easily.

It’s also just a great exercise that almost anyone can benefit from because you don’t need to go as heavy to really feel the target muscles working.

Like any exercise, it’s a skill that takes time and patience to get right. But it definitely sits near the top of my list when it comes to hinge movement patterns.

I started in 2013.

I left in 2020.

I came back in 2023…

…and I haven’t looked back since.

All the corporate bu****it that’s shoved down your throat in commercial gyms is one of the biggest reasons staff turnover is so high and members end up becoming just another number.

At Complete Fitness, I’ve been able to express myself creatively, get involved in programme design, which I absolutely love, and fully invest myself in every one of our students’ journeys.

This is an appreciation post to everyone at Complete Fitness, not just those in the picture. Every coach, every member, and everyone behind the scenes has helped make this place what it is.

The best thing is… we’re only just scratching the surface. 😉

If, like me, you find it easier to press with your dominant side…

Then addressing that asymmetry with the kettlebell bottoms-up press could be exactly what you need.

I’ve had bottoms-up presses in my warm up for the past year. Just 1 set of 8 each side. In that time, I’ve gone from struggling with a 10kg to trying a 24kg for the first time.

Are both sides perfectly symmetrical now? No.

But my non dominant side is far more stable than it was before I started programming this in.

Don’t believe me? Add 1 set of bottoms-up presses to your warm up and see what it does for your shoulder stability.

Small change. Big difference.
