Club Statement: 2026 Fixture Booklet & Historical Records
The Executive Committee of Barton Town Cricket Club wishes to address feedback received regarding our recently published 2026 fixture bookletโspecifically, the sections highlighting the *"Top 20 All-Time Leading Run Scorers"* and *"Top 20 All-Time Leading Wicket Takers."*
We understand that the wording used has caused disappointment and frustration among some of our esteemed ex-members. For this, the current committee, and in particular our Treasurer and Secretary, Oliver Mussett, who is responsible for the publication of the booklet, would like to offer an unreserved explanation.
Our Intentions
First and foremost, we want to make it absolutely clear that this wording was never intended to disrespect, overlook, or in any way tarnish the incredible achievements of those who have worn the Barton Town cap throughout our long history. Every run scored, wicket taken, and catch held represents the foundation upon which our club stands today.
The Challenge of Record Keeping
As any volunteer-run community sports club knows, maintaining flawless historical records is a monumental task. Prior to the digital era, record-keeping relied entirely on physical scorebooks and manual logging. Tracking down and cross-referencing these historical records across multiple leagues over our club's nearly 200-year history is a complex challenge to undertake retrospectively.
Presently, the data available to us is limited to what is hosted on the digital *Play-Cricket* platform. However, we are fully aware and deeply appreciative of the fact that thousands of incredible performances occurred long before the invention of digital scoring tools.
Moving Forward: How You Can Help
The current committee is entirely committed to working alongside our local cricketing community, current members, and ex-members to build a truly accurate and comprehensive statistical history of this great club. To do that, we need your help.
If you possess any items relating to the history of Barton Town Cricket Club, we would love to hear from you. We are looking to collate:
* Old scorebooks and scorecards
* Historical photographs and albums
* Club documentation, newspaper clippings, or memorabilia
Preserving Our Heritage
While displaying our entire archive permanently in the clubhouse is not feasible due to its dual use as a modern, multi-functional community venue, we are dedicated to preserving our heritage. We intend to create a dedicated historical display within the club and are actively looking to partner with the local museum to ensure our most important historical pieces are safely housed and celebrated.
Get in Touch
We want to move forward together to ensure our club's history is properly honored. If you have any questions, wish to discuss this further, or would like to contribute to our archiving project, please contact us:

Thank you for your continued support, passion, and dedication to Barton Town Cricket Club.
